The expenditures for riuting, binding, &., slace October 9, ‘were 20,112, leaving a balance on hand of $49,371 The Aqueduct Tunnel. WORK TO BE SUSPENDED FOR WANT OF FUNDS. Maj. Lydecker has submitted to the Chief of Engineers his report of operations for in- creasing the water supply of the District during September. He says that the work on the tunnel Was continued during the month, but the force ‘Was gradually reduced preparatory to a suspension of active operations which has become necessary for the reason that the money appropriated for the Work is about used up. ‘The length of lining com- pleted during the month was 863 feet, making the tal length lined 8,767 feet. During October Operations will be limited to cleaning out the tun- nel sand preparations for final measurements of Wot heretofore done under contract. ‘The work of-excavation, paving, and sodding at the new Teservolr Was’ contintied with more satisfactory Progress than usual. During October tt 18 ex- pected that all work contemplated under the present contract will be completed.
