SALE OF “GRASSLANDS,” THE COUNTRY RESIDENCE OF SECRETARY WHITNEY—A NEW HOTEL TO BE ERECTED (ON THE METROPOLITAN BRANCH—THB LINCOLN HALL SITE TO BE IMPROVED BY A SYNDICATE. ‘The subduing influences of the summer heat pervades the real-estate market just now, and, a8 the dealers remark, “things are rather quiet.” A good many real-estate men have left the city to Seek some cool place by the seaside or in the mountains, and, while enjoying a rest, they can look back over a full winter ana spring of unusual activity in thetr business. If they live according to thelr means, the real-estate men, as.a rule, can live on the fat of the land this summer, and in using this phrasethe metaphorical meaning need not be understood as excluding liquids. It is Pretty @fetosay that during the hot weather at least there will be comparatively little done in the way of buying and selling realestate. It is too late to look at houses and lots, and a great many of the people who have money to invest are out of town, and so there are two important reasons Why the market should be rather quiet just now. It, however, always is quiet about this time of the year. ‘The building operations do not stop on count of the hot weather, and there are a great many houses going up in’ all parts of the city. Some have just been started and others are in the Various stages of completion, so that the buildi trades are enjoying what ‘is known as a. season. In the suburbs there 18 also a great deal of work now in p: ‘The large tracts of land jurchased for subdivision are being laid out and e streets: leveled and graded. A Man Dying from Wounds Inflicted by an Escaped Convict. ‘THE RUFFIAN WHO WIELDED THE WEAPON FINED $5 IN THE POLICE COURT FOR ASSAULT. ‘Some time ago a young colored man named Geo. Wednesday afternoon he was recaptured by Officers Maddox and Keefe, and Thursday morning he was taken to the Police Court to be again committed to the workhouse. On Monday afternoon Jackson had assaulted and nearly killed another colored man named Andrew Blackburn, Dut the officers knew nothing of it, except the mere fact that there had been a fight.
