Principal Brown, of the Sumner School, Asks for an Investigation of Charges Which Have Not Been Made. ‘The District Commissioners have recelved a letter from Ellis W. Brown, the principal of the Sumner School, stating that he had heard that charges had been made against his Christian character and his reputation as a school teacher, and that these charges had been sent to the Dis- trict Commissioners. He further states that he understands these charges to include one that a dance was allowed to be held in one of the school- rooms. Mr. Brown asks that an investigation be held and that he be given an opportunity to dis- prove such statements, Commissioner Webb stated to-day that no against Mr. Brown had been recet mmissioners, and that all he knew about the matter was contained in the letter of Mr. He said that the letter had been referred to the school board. Mr. Webb added that he Was sorry that any publicity should be given to the matter, for the reason that there was nothing in the casé apparently except some idle rumors the ears of Mr. Brown. liked to have such matters given an undue public- ty, as he thought that it tended to impair the efficiency of the public schools.
