The Taking of Testimony im the Sharp ‘Trial Contipdea To-day. New York, June 24.—Jacob Sharp was no weaker than usual when he cafse into court this morning, Ror did he appear to, be any better than us though he said to the reporter that the effect 01 Dr. Loomis’ prescription of yesterday was to make him sleep better than he had at any time since his pr eaten i. Day se called to testity with reference fo the general sur- face railroad bill of 1683. ‘Mr. John M. Soribner was the next witness, AS son as he took the chair Judge Barrett warned Mr, Parsons against repetitions, His honor said his object was to save valuable time and that he had mpg ea aa Soares aa ir. Scribner tember, 1884. Counsel feed Judge Dononue’s de. cision to prove that it was not for the Broadway franchise to be put up at auction. Mr. Parsons next read the report of te Supreme Court Commission that recommended the Broad. ray railroad, wnieh held that the annual rental of 440,000 and. roentage Was a Very liberal ar. Tangement and aneavy turden for & city road omy 23 mntles long. ‘Mr.Parsons then moved to strike out all evidence relerring tw the changes made on the book of the Broadway and Seventh Avene Road, a, testified to by Accountant Townsend. The ‘motion was granted, and Mr. Scribner went on to tell how the Change had been made and why. “Have you heard the name of Billy Moloney mentioned in this case a8 ® Visitor at your once?” “I have.” The witness said he first met Moloney with Brother Chittenden. “Your office is said to have been the headquar- ters of what the prosecution calls a conspiracy. aT now oF 3 conspiracy nor of sttempt to “I know of no nor of any attempt bribe the aldermen and others,” inile Witness finished, and was not cross-exam- ni Francis J. Twomey, clerk of the board of alder- men, was next called, He testified to his inability to tind any applications for a Broadway trap- chise other than that of the cable and Broadway Toads. He was not cross-examined. Mr. Abraham W. Earl followed. “He said he was secretary of the New York Cable Kallroad Com- pany. “Are you aware that an offer of-$75,000 was, made to the aldermen at a meeting in McLaugh- lin’s house by your company, one-half cash apd one-half bonds, for the right 10 run cars on Broad- way?” “I bave heard some rumors to that effect, but no such offer Was made or any suggestion of Such an offer.” Mr. Nicoll cross-examined the witness, and brought out the fact that President Andrews ot the company did make Mayor Edsun an offer of a million dollars for the Broadway franchise, to be paid invo the elty-treasury. Having read atr. Sharps testimony as_a whole betore the senate investigating committee, W. W. Viles took the stand. He conducted the examina- ton of Fullgraff before that committee. “Do you remember a statement mude by Full- grail after bis examination?” ‘The witness in reply described the dramatic scene when Fullgraff called on God to strike hin dead if he had ever accepted a dollar for his vote. ‘THE DEFENSE VERY BRIEF INDEED. Quite unexpecceuly at this polut Mr. Parsons sald that the defense had only tree more wit nesses to examine. “We desire,” he added, “to cali George Buss and Joun Mcatahon aud Julius eidman, two members of the Spehnorer Ciub. BLISS’ EFFORTS FOR FAIR PLAY. “I demanded of tue committee,” said hi half of Mn Sharp, his right to explain ce his answers, which by reason of belng incomplete aremisieading. The commitiee consulted, and then Mr. Seward told me that the committee had decided “not to permit an explanation then, but Unat at the close Of his examination he would be given an opportunity. Finally tue committee ad— Journed to Albany, and never gave Mr. Sharp the opportunity for explanation that I had been promised.” Mr. Parsons says that Mr. Stickney will prob- ably begin his summing up this afternoon, and that the burden of his argument will be that the prosecution has clearly proved Mr. Sharp's inno- cence.
