To the Editor of Tax EvgsiNe Stan: An application has been made by the leader of the National Rifles Band, and by a number of Washington’s best business men, to the Commis- stoners for permission to give open-air concerts on Sunday afternoons in one of the publle reserva- Uons, these concerts to be in addition to others given during the week by the band, such concerts to be free to the public and without expense to the District. ‘The band isa fine one, numbering thirty nea, under the leadership of Frot. Butitis not every one who can attend the music, especially on Saturdays, and to those who cannot do so a Sunday sacred concert Would be a blessing. In a little conversation to- day with Prof. Krause We talked over the matter and the reasons which prompted nim to give these free concerts. He said the great trouble heretofore has been that the men comprising citizen bands did not have practice enough togeiher, and there Was no incentive for them to attend rehearsals, ‘ow, I propose to pay each member of this band @ monthiy salary, in addition to the regular per day or job price, and, in consideration of said sal- ary, these men dre always subject to sueh engage- A Struggle for a Child.
