WHO KISSANE REALLY 1s, & Wealthy Farmer, Known by the Name of Rogers, of Sonoma, Cal. Asspectal from San Francisco to the New York Heraid, dated April 2, says: At last the mystery is solved, and the question, “Who 1s Kissane?” ‘that set the city by the ears forthe past week, ts answered. William Kissane is known here as Wm. K. Rogers, a wealthy farmer of Sonoma county, and the discovery bas proven less exciting than the guessing. Still, there are many strongly romantic features in the story, not the least ramarkable being the fact that Kissane has a Drother living in Sam Francisco under another name, Who is one of her most influential citizens. Itis this brother's influence, embracing as it does railroad and legai and Masonic circles, that has so effectnaily stopped the publication of the expose. ‘Although the name was known last night, and although fis known that more than one paper ad the full story in type, not one was ted this morning, and this evening the New ‘ork dispatches concerning the matter were sup- essed, A German ipet—the Demokrat—atone Poke the Sal — ee but no notice has ‘been taken of the matter. Kissane’s story fs this: When Mberated from SI Sing he came to Catfornia, and finding afesrs Nibustering expedition to Mextco in pro- ress @nrulled bimself. He was oneot Walker's Teutenants and fought bravely at Lopaz and al that fatal march across the Sonora Geert. He had added Kozers to bis name and was Dfeveted by the uibuster chlet as colonel. THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON, MONDAY, APRIL 4, 1887-SUPPLEMENT Miss Abigail Stark Outdees All Pre- vieusly Reported Sommambulists, From the Toledo Blade. Abigail Stark, a young, prepossessing girl of the fifth ward, is a somnambulist, and a most thorough one at that. She has been known to walk a dis- tance of two miles at a stretch without waking up, and on one occasion she frightened a sleigh load of | Young people, who were returning late at night from a party, half out of their wits, It was some time before Miss Abigail's parents learned of their daughter's peculiarity, and ever after they kept close watch of her. Now, Miss Stark was courted by a young man from the third ward, John Derby, a likely fellow, but for some reason he and the old folks could not get along together, and the upshot of the matter was that he was denied admisston to the Stark manston, a proceeding which quite dis- gusted the youthful lovers. But they were not to be outdone so easily, and from the time of the estrangement between the young man and the old folks the girl seemed to take acertain fancy to an aunt who resides in Lower Town. Strange to say, the coincidence in time did not manifest tteeit to the Stark elders, and they merely ex; ‘that their daughter should take aunt, Who Was Mrs. Stark’s wroriee incon, ee One night, while Jokn and Abigail were return. from & , John u shoul we married without Tirta delay, He said there was bo parents ever him, so long asthe had tobe raed he Wanted to reach it by the shortest way. The bright fire, the cozy ehair, the comfortable slippers, and all the et ceteras'that go to make up the picture of a perfect home came up before hitn, Suddenly it oceurred to him that he Rad promised to call upon his chum, who lived near the aunt’s residence, and close up & business matter of some importance, Alth h it was late he knew his chum's penchant for late hours, and therefore had no scruples. In his impetuous way he had but one thought, and that Was that Abigail had eoncluded to accept his angi and had come out in the hope of over- xing him. ‘ n But he was surprised at her silence. When he spoke to her, she answered in quite as endearing terms as he had used in addressing her; then she took his arm, and the two walked rapidly away. He asked her’if she had really decided to marry him that night, and he was sure that she said yes. Anyway, he wis so overjoyed that he nearly for- got the way to the minister's. All was dark when they got there, but a vigorous ringing soon brought ‘vine to the front door.
