This train, the latest production of the Boston & Albany Ratlroad shops at Allston, was lighted by electricity and heated by steam. For the first time in the his. tory of railroading the world over a complete train so lighted and so heated has been successfully run. ‘Twenty Incandescent electric lamps, ranged in double rows along the high ceiling of the cars, effectively light them. Each light 18 of sixteen- candle power, and the steady glow is fed from the storage batteries of the Jullen system. A Mount Holly, N. J., special, March 31, says: For the past day or two several strange faces have been seen about the cemetery at Lumberton in the Vieluity of the grave of Katle Anderson, whose death by an assassin’s bullet recently caused such a profound sensation. At first nothing was thought of the appearance of the strangers until they were seen by one of the section-men on the railroad, as he was returning home about dusk. He noticed ‘two men acting rather susptclously in that part of the cemetery where the murdered girl's grave was located. AS they saw him approach they su down asif trying to avold discovery. After walt- ing in that ‘position a moment ‘the — suspects straightened up and Walked towards the place of exit on the opposite side and disappeared. One of them carried something that looked like a shovel under his arm. On seeing that they were followed they walked hurriedly down the village street and thence out in the direction of Mount Holly, and were not_seen again. Whether they intended to Tob the grave of the body of the murdered girl can- hot be positively stated, but their actions gave sufficient ground for suspecting them. Ink Which May Fade. “The Lounger” in the American Grocer. I Was chatting the otner day with the vice-presi- dent of one of the trunk tines of railway when a messengerentered with an important contract, having 21 years to run. It was a traffic agreement with a competing line, and was a very valuable document. It happened to be written with a type-writer In aniline ink. Upon seeing this he positively refused to sign the paper. He then took the contract to the president of Uhé road and sald: “Mr.—, if you Want to sign this contract youcan do it, but I never will.” “When asked why he re- plied: “It is written in aniline ink, which fades, and long before the expiration of this contract this document will be eniirely faded and practi. cally worthless.” ‘The result’ was the return of the contract, with a request that hereafter all important ddcuments, the preservation of which is destrable, should be written in ink that would not fade, During Gen. Grant's term as President one of his cabiiet officers discovered that the records of ab ltmportant branch of one of the departments had. been for 2 years written in purple ink. It ts. one of the problets of chemistry to find something which wil! make permanent the beautiful aniline colors, but thus far all efforts have fatled. It is growing more and more the custom to have deeds, contracts and viiuabie documents printed on a type-writer in aniline tak. ‘This a great mis take, because in a few Years they are sure to be obliterated. ——eee.
