SHE MUST LEAVE THE DISTRICT IN 48 HOURS. ‘This morning in the Police Court Mr. Padgett called to the attention of Judge Snell the case of Oiie P. Ellis, alias the “Duchess of California,” charged with being a suspicious character. “Iam not guilty,” she answered when Deputy Clerk Harper arraigned her. The at- | DEATH OF HENRY 0. NOYES, An Honorable and Usefal Life. ‘Mr. Henry O. Noyes, of the reportorial staff of ‘Tur EVENING Stax, died at half past seven o'clock last evening at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Eugene Van Vieck, Linden, Montgomery county, ‘Md. Mr. Noyes’ health had been failing for many months, and for several days he had been confined to his house. His death, however, came unex- pectedly, as he appeared yesterday to be recover- ing his strength. ‘The immediate cause of his death was lysis of the heart, from which, owing to enfeebled condition,” he could not iy. Mr. Noyes was born in Minot, Me., February 21, 1827, and was therefore about 60 years old. He ‘camé to this city when a young man, and was en- gaged at different, times tn mercantile ts in the United States revenue service. About twenty years ago he entered the employment of ‘Tur EVENING Star, and up to last Friday, when he ‘Was compelled by filness to desist from ‘work, he rendered the paper zealous and intelligent service. His work was characterized always by fdelity and Consclentiousness. In his later years, when his health Was broken, he not be induced to leave "his post, and seek much needed recreation, During his many Years of newspaper service he became thoroughly identified with Tux Evexna Stax, and had a very large acquaintance in the city. He was for many years a member of the Doard of m: TS of the Masonic Relief associa- Uon. His amiable wife, who was a Miss Colisson, aniece of Mr. Edward Drew, died about three Years ago, and he never recovéred from the shock that this Aliction gave him. He leaves ve chil dren—two sons and three daughters, ‘The oldest daughter 13 the wife of Mr. Jullan C. Dowell, of the Patent office, “and the second’ daughter is the wife of Mr. Engene A. ‘Van Vleck, of the Pension office. He ‘was a ‘cousin of Mr.’C. 8. Noyes and a brother of the late S. V. Noyes.” In amtability and integ- rity Of character and fidelity to friends and to all his obligations in life he strongly resembled bis lamented brother. ‘The funeral will take place at 1 o'clock p. m. to- morrow from the residence of Mr. Eugene A. Van Vieck, Linden station, Metropolitan road, and the interment will be at’ Glenwood cemetery at 3 m. The Senate yesterday afternoon passed the ‘House bill to create a department of agriculture and labor, With an amendment transferring the signal service bureau to that department.
