STONE THAT COULD BE UTILIZED FOR THE MEMORIAL BRIDGE. To the Editor of Tae Evexixe Star: About as far back aswhen, away out west, I first commenced to read the National Intelligencer, I noticed in the congressional proceedings the an- nual appropriation for the Rip Raps, the name attracting my boyish attention. Ido not remem- ber to have read of any such appropriation during the last half century. The Rip Raps were a foun- dation of loose stone dropped in Hampton Roads ‘two or three miles from Fortress Monroe, on which a vast sum of money was afterwards expended in an attempt to erect thereon a great fortification of granite, ‘Two years ago I visited this fortifica- ton and Was astonished to see how much money had been wasted there. There are hundreds of immense blocks of dressed granite not in pl: and thousands of greater blocks in the walls, The construction of the fortification was abandoned, ‘on accouut of the insufficiency of the foundatio and the material is of ‘no value now, except asa quarry of dressed stone. This stone could easily be put upon transports and carried to where it might be profitably used. I suggest that this ‘Yast amount of valuable stone, which 1s utterly useless where it now is, might be used in the con- struction of the piers for the proposed Grant Me- morial bridge across the Potomac. All without ‘that with the MODJESKA, extra charge at Ellis’ Music Store, Tt affords me pleasure to give you "this Heport of the cure of our little grandchild by your Ctticgma Rewe- pres, When six months old his left-hand began to swell and had every appearance of a large boil. We poulticed it, but all tono purpose. About five months ‘after it became s running sore, Soon other sores formed, He then had two of them on each hand, and ashis blood became more snd more impure it took less time for them to break out. A sore cameon the chin, beneath the under lip, which was very offensive. His head was one solid scab, discharging a great deal. ‘Twis was his condition at twenty-two months eld, ‘when I undertook the care of him, his mother having died when he was little more than a year old, of con- sumption (scrofula of course). He could walk little, butcouldnot get up if he fell down, ‘and could not move when in bed, having no use of bis. Iim- mediately commenced with the tps REEVES using the Curicuna and Curicuna Soap fresty, and when he had taken one bottle of the Curzouna REsor- ‘vert, his head was completely cured, and he was im- proved inevery way. We were very much encour- aged, and continued the use of the Remedies for a year and half. One sore after another healed, s bony mat- ter forming in each one of these five deep ones just be fore healing. which would finally grow loose and wer taken out; then they would heal rapidly. One of these ‘ugly bone formations I preserved. After taking a dozen and a half bottles he was completely cured, and is now, at the ace of six years, a strong and healthy child. The scars on his hands must always remain; his hands are strong, though we once feared he would neverbe able touse them. All that physicians did for him did him no good. All who saw the child before using the Cuz- rcuna Reepres and see the child now consider it a wonderful cure. If the above facts are of any use to you, you are at liberty to use them. ‘MRS, E. 8, DRIGGS, May 9, 1885. _ 612 E. Clay st., Bloomington, Il. The child was really in a worse condition than he appeared to his grandmother, who, being with him every day, became accustomed to the disease. MAGGIE HOPPING. CUTICURA REMEDIES Are sold everywhere.
