Fresh accessions to the ranks of the strikers were reported from all quarters along the docks. An air of sympathy is rife among the working classes which bids fair to include many other branches of industry other than those already affected. ‘The warehousemen at several of the stores are talking about going out. The freight is piled up on the docks, Sones Jaden with merchandise and canal doats loaded with coal lie idle along the river front. ‘The police are scattered along the docks in small saute but their services so far have not been Fr ‘One of the leaders of the strike said yesterday: “Phe outlook 13 more threatening to-day than ab any time since the beginning of the strike, Unless asettlement is arrived at before the end of the week there 1s a strong chance of the trouble ex- tending much more rapidly. We have no doubt of our ultimate success.” It is stated that the man- agers of the strike have under advisement thecall- ing out of the gas works men and the electric light mén unless a satisfactory settlement is soon ar rived at. ‘TALK OF PROSECUTIONS FOR CONSPIRACY. ‘The New York Tribune says: “The strike of ‘longshoremen and coal handlers is likely to as- ‘sume a new and serious phase to-morrow if rumor istrue, Itwas stated that the Old Dominion steamship company had sworn out warrants in, the United States court charging John J. Mc- Kenna, J. "I. Putnam, Patrick ScGartland, Thos. MeGrath‘and J. E. Quinn, of the board of arbitra- tion of District Assembly’ No. 49, with conspiracy; that these warrants are in the hands of the United. ‘States marshal and will be served to-morrow.” ‘WILL THE COAL MINERS STRIKE. Rumors were current in Wilkesbarre, Pa., last night that a general strike of miners will be or- dered, probably Monday next. Delegates trom all the local asssemblles of the Knights of Labor in the coal region met at Wilkesbarre yesterday in strict secret convention. Nothing couid be learned Of the proceedings, but it is understood the con- Yention was called in response to an appeal from the striking coal-handlers asking the ininers to come to their rescue. ———_or____ The Trouble at St, Stephen’s, FATHER DONNELLY CLEARS THE CONFESSIONALS WITH THE AID OF POLICEMEN. ‘The deplorable state of affairs at St. Stephen’s Catholic church in New York continues. Last night was confessional night at the church. It has heretofore been the custom to keep the base- ment open until 10 o'clock on these nights, At. 9:30 last night, according to the New York Sun, Father Donnelly, accompanied by Capt. Ryan, a detective and ten policemen, envered the base- ment where the confessions are heard, and said, “phis place must be locked.” Still aécompanted by the police captain, Father Donnelly went to the two confessionals and let the priests know his wishes. The priests came out, and followed by all the people were waiting except one man, ‘went out on the sidewalk. Capt. Ryan told thé man to get out. The man refused, Hesaid it was not yet 10 o'clock, and he would ‘not go until 10. Capt. Ryan took hold of his coat collar and shook him violently, and afterward boxed his ears, first on one side atid then on the other, Some women screamed, While others hissed Capt. Ryan and called him “Father Ryan” derisively. The man ‘was turned over ly Capt. Ryan to two policemel who “removed” him t@ the sidewalk and start him home with a parting shove. Groups formed in the streets and jeered and hissed the police, who in turn ordered everybody to “keep moving.’ aoe fan yesterday ordered Father Colton, of Port Chester, to take charge of St. Stephen’s when Father Donnelly leaves, The people say they would as soon have Father Don- nelly as Father Colton, THE CONGREGATION OF ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH WITH- ‘HOLD SUPPORT FROM THE NEW PASTOR, Father Dounelly, who was appointed by Arch- bishop Corrigan tosucceed Dr. McGlynn, was order- ed to leave St. Stephen’s church Wednesday after- noon by a number of woman who were guarding Dr. McGlynn’s confessional box, and as the priest went out he was hissed by the congregation. ‘The par- ishioners of St. Stephen’s adopted resolutions to “abstain from any her Support, pecuniary or otherwise, while we are deprived of the ministra- tons of Kev. Dr. Edward ve ‘The announcement of several important changes at the chureh created no little excitement among the parishioners. Rev. Dr. Curran, who has beet Father McGlynn’s assistant for fifteen years, is to be transferred to the cathedral. Rev. Father Col- von takes his place. Rev. Father Barry will go to vo St. Monica’s church, and will be succeeded by Rev, Father McGrath, of that church. Father Donnelly will remain in charge, as he expressed it last night “for the purpose St conquering ‘the None of Father McGlynn’s associates are at the church of St, Stephen's, eae Mone Rowan Rowons—The Catholic News says ‘that private telegrams from Rome received in Bal- timore aunounce that at the next consistory seve- Tal bishops will be nominated by the pope to the American sees. For Cleansing the Skin and Scalp of Birth Humors, for allaying Itching, Burning and Inftammation, for curing the first symptoms of Eczoms, Psoriasis, Milk Crust, Scald Head, Scrofula and other inherited skin and biood diseases, Curicuna, the great Skin Cure, and Cursouna Soar, and exquisite Skin Beautifier, exter- nally, and CuTiouns Rrsorvenr, the new Blood Puri- ‘fier, internally, are infallible. Absolutely pure. ‘MY OLDEST CHILD, ‘Now six years of age, when an infanteix months old, ‘was attacked with virulent, malignant skin disease. All ordinary remedies failing, we called our family Physician, who attempted to cure it; but it spread with almost incredible rapidity, until the lower portion of the little fellow's person, from the middle of his beck down to his knees, was one solid rash, ugly, painfal, Dlotched and malicious, We had no rest at night, no peace by day. The physician did not know then, and does not know now, what it was. Finally, we were ad- vised to try CuricuRA Remxpres. Without the know- ledge of our physician, I prooured a box of Coriouma and acakeof Curicuma Soar. The effect ‘WAS SIMPLY MARVELOUS, ‘Using the two together, first washing him thoroughly, with Curicura Sor, then anointing him with Curt cura. From the first application a change for the bet- ter appeared. The doctor said we had no further need of him, and ceased his visits. In three or four weeks & complete cure was wrought, leaving the little fellow's personas white and healthy as though he had never been attacked. In my opinion, your valuable remedies saved his life, and to-day he is a strong, healthy child, perfectly well, no repetition of the disease having ever occurred.
