Special Cable Dispatch to Tax EVENING STAR Loxpox, Oct. 19,—A special correspondent, whose accuracy I can guarantee, telegraphs this morning from Woodiord, County Galway, as follows: The outlook in Ireland has suddeniy become stormy. The peaceful prospect of last week has been overclouded and the struggle be- tween landlords and tenants for the abate- ment of rent, which, owing to the depressicn, Was elsewhere belug arranged amicably, seems likely to be fought out bitterly on the Clansi- carde estate, where the tenants demand a 25 percent reduction and are offered nothing. Woodford, twenty miles from the nearest rall- way, has been the scene of a formal acceptance by the national league of responsivilliy for the struggle. Dillon, O'Brien, Matthew, Harris and others were present ata great mass meeting, at which Dillon expounded THE NEW POLICY OF THE LEAGUE. Tenants are advised to pay the reduced rent refused by the landlords into the hands of trus- tees to be employed in supporting those evicted. The tenants on estates are to act together und refuse to pay any rent ualess the reduction is accepted. The national league in such cases will use every effort to support the tenants, the meeting, but Js not likely 10 be acted upon. excepting on two or three estates where the landlords are unreasonable. Possibly it will only be followed on the Woodford portion of he Clansicarde estate, which sees likely to be the cockpitin Ireland this winter, and which ‘was described as THE THERMOPYLZE OF IRISH FREEDOM. It 4s difficult to exaggerate the importance of Dillon’s pronouncement. It is not intended to incite tenants generally to extreme courses, but Atconcentrates the populur forces ona polut where ® landlord absentee, who is both un- Teasopable und unpopular, refuses all abaic- ment. Tbe national league only uccepts the de nce plan laid down by Clansicarde. The chief hope of peace lies in the bellef that the humors An the body politic muy draw to a head in this district aloue, and the rest of Ireland may be trungall while Woodford is convulsed with civil war, The payment vf rent to trastees ior aneviction tund is not likely to be general, ever in Woodford, but no rent will be paid ai Woodford until the evicted tenants are rein- stated, on the one hand, on Clansicarde, or on the other, it breaks down the combination of tenants which ts bucked by all the force at the Gisposal of the national league at home and abroad. ——— LONDON’S LITERARY SENSATION. Just what the plans of the revolutiouisis are cannot be learned at present, but the popular opinion is that they in- elude a'scheme to consolidate the adversaries ‘of the present administration and create a new political party, or, in other words, forcibly over- throw President Diaz. A new congress ts then tobe elected aud a new constitution formed. Many friends of President Diaz, it is said, ure among the agitators of the scheme, and’it is Ueir Intention to make the president dictator of the republic for a term of ten years, so that sufficient time may be had to give the new pian @ {air trial, The leaders of the proposed revolu- tion reside in the southeastern states and it is thought that its adherents will revolt in ashort time against the present goverament and a tempt to inaugurate the new plan. —— ALONG THE BLUE JUNIATA.
