A BALL AND TOURNAMENT IN HONOR OF THE NATIONAL RIFLES, ‘The great event at Colonial Beach Wednes- day was the ball given at the hotel in honor of the Rifles. The ball-room was very prettily decorated, and the music was turnished by the Weecacoe band. A reception committee, com- posed_ of Messrs. Manson, McDermott, Holmes and Seitz, succeeded in’ making everybody happy; but at times the crowd was so great hat the dancing was somewhat interfered with. There were a large number of Washing- Yonians, who had come down especially to at- tend the ball, and their presence was heartily appreciated ‘by the sojourners at the beach. During the evening the Rifles serenaded Mr. J B. Hammond at his cottage. This gentleman, Who is one of the large stockholders in the Co- Jonial Beach Co., has sold to Mr. A. ASKING STREET IMPROVEMENTS FOR WEST ‘WASHINGTON. ‘The Commissioners are 1 of a.com. munication from ex-Commissioner Josiah Dent, stating that two years agoor more he filed with the Commissioners a memorial signed by citi- zens representing different sections and inter. ests of Georgetown, requesting the paving of certain streets. Some of these improvements have been made, but two of the streets nam Viz: Market strcet, trom 3d to High, and Hood Street, from High to Congress, although recom- mended by Capts. Green and Mahan, while in charge, have not yet been scheduled for im- rovement. Market street, in connection with High street, furnishes. the most direct aud con- Venlent access from the county to the public market, on Bridge street, and Road street, in connection with High and Congress, Is now one of the chief thoroughfares of the town. The little fellow said he made pene of money to clothe and feed himseli with by caning chairs, but that his mother kept all bis money. The judge said that he would take his personal bonds if he would promise to go home by way of the back streets.
