Special Cable Dispatch to Tue EVENING STAR Lospon, August 25.—Several ministers now speak of the house rising by the middle of Sep- tember. Gladstone left Charing Cross this morning en route for Bavaria, where he takes & short holida@which he 1s supposed to need. As I watche® him in the center of a large group of friends, who caine to bid him good-bye, I cannot honestly say the holiday seemed much wanted. I never saw him in xuberant spirits,as he dashed from one friend to another, smiling an uside to his wife, wuo wore a black gown and cobventional veil, civing instructions to his private secretary, "Carmichael; Joking to Master Hertert,’ who looked as if he hud spent “long vigil, or dashing into the saloon carriage, where his daughter, in a slate gray traveling costume, was getting the wraps and rugs ready. Then he turned to John Morley, and taiked to him few minutes uside. Probably he was whisper- ing state secrets, as the ex-chilef's secretary Was looking very serious. Gladstone in a trock coat and ‘tall hat and Gladstone off for @ holiday are two different persons. Picture him in a loose-titting gray tourist's suit, soft cap of the same material, glasses dangling around his neck, a gray shawi tung carelessly over his shoulders in tremendous form, with a laughing hand-sbake for everybody, and with- outasymptom of wear or tear ot’ his recent labors.
