SHOT BY A NEGRO HIGHWAYMAN, WHO STOLE THE CASH BOX OF THE CAR. Saturday night about 9:15 o’clock as summer ear No. 86 on the Metropolitan railroad was passing along P street, near 21st street, directly ‘west of Dupont Circle, a stout negro entered the car, and, without a word of warning, shot the Griver, Robert H. Clark, in the left shoulder. ‘The driver at once grabbed his cash box, and a desperate struggle between the negro and the Griver ensued, during which the money was Scattered on the platiorm of the ear, aud some silver pieces were heard to drop on the cobble- Stones. ‘The nezrothen fled with We empty box and the police were at once notified. The captains marched their respective commands to quarters, the guard details were made, and the gallants of Washington entered upon’ camp life dn earnest. On the ar- rival of th ge Wagon the messes were of ganized and named, as were the camp streets, which are Wheatly, Webb, Ludlow, Hume, Crantord and Goldsborough.
