The opening part of the cere SIONS OF MUTINY. ‘The only sign of insubordination yet seen in camp was when Capt Oyster, in his reply to ‘To come so tar to conquer and then to be denied the opportunity to aitact, with such ‘@ sweet enemy so ready to surrender; ob, no! Groans trom the boys, and ignis of tears, and a general air of mutiny amoug the fod om the gallery of the hotel, ‘ought to have been a sufficient warning to thi Cuptain, but it was only after threats of a mid. night bath (per toree) that he finally consented to amend his unwise speech, which he did by saying that there was uo law probibiting aman having a wite at home and asweetheur! nere, or two sweethearts here—if be bad his lite insured against personal violence and could work the scheme successfully. THE FInsT HIGHT, Of course there was no sleep in camp last night, although that fact cannot be attributed to any necessary work of fixing upcamp pre- paraory to retiring for the night. Every thi had been prepared ip advance under the excel- lent supervision of Dr. A Bentley. Too much praise cannot be aw: Mr. J. B, Ham- mond, honorary member, who contributed ‘and personally superintended the laying of the Unusually good flooring of the tents, IC the wet weather which usually accompantes the Ritles on their excursions gives them a call at Colonial Beach they will be found above flood tide. The prinetpal ‘avenue of the camp has been named in honor of Mr, Hainmond, ase slight return for bis kindness, However, while tue boys evi- dently intend to keep dry ‘outside, there is no visible intention of a similar Kind as regards the inner man. A MERCHANT MUEDERED IN HIS STORE NEAR QUANTICO, Benjamin T, Eversman, who keeps a country store on the road to Wetipquin, about four miles from Quantico, Wicomico county, Md., was found murdered in his store Saturday morulng. He alept over the store, but buarded with Lis ‘stepmother, who resides about haifa mileaway. morning Eversman tailed to go home to breakfast at the usual hour, and bis step- mother, earing he was ill and couid not open the store, took & key the. fitted the lock anc went down tothe store. On arriving there she found the building closed und no signs of life within. Unlocking the door she eutered and she found the dead body of Eversman lying near the end of the counter in _& pol of bi with tace downward ins basin of water. Tue api 168 of the building indicated that a ter- rivle struggle bad taken piace between the pro- prielor auu the murderer or murderers. Ou the counter ite the money drawer was tound a plove of sétton goods thai bad evideutiy been cut from 4 bolt for @ customer; ulso, the yard- stick which was used for measuring it. The theory 1s that Eversman bad sold this and other articles; that the purchaser gave a piece of money thal required change, and Eversiman had turned to the money drawer under the ives, which was covered with fly netting, ‘Whereupon the murderer dealt the first blow on the left side of the bead, near the ear, as blood was found on the netiing and couuier. At this point Eversman seems to have grappied with his assailant bebind the counter, and fought desperately, as spots of blood were iound from the money ‘drawer to the end of the counter, a distance of ten to filteen eel. Near the body were found also too heavy weights, covered with biood and bair, and an open pen: knife, which were evidently the instruments of death. When the blood was washed irom the ace eleven ghastly wounds were found, seven on the face and forehead, and four on the head and back of the neck. The tongue also protruded some distance from the mou, and there were cartridges. mone; is 1 ee eed Ly quiet and comparatively few persons heard of Ree resets tia ae 10 the Maid of the by only s backman ands Stripped of ‘be put on an ordinary cork server and swara out into the ‘A pobos. tan irled to interpose bat was foo ‘ate.
