Services in the Weods—A Meeting of Stockholders—Communion Day. Correspondence of THE EVENING STAR JACKSON Grove, Mp., August 10th, Yesterday morning the first of @ series of early morning prayer meetings was started in the tabernacle by Rev. C. N. Robinson, of Brooklyn, Anne Arundel county, and the regu- lar prayer service was conducted by Rev. T. E. Coulburn, of Lynchburg, Va. The experience meeting at half-past nine o’clock was con- dueted by Rev. Me Woodin,and the attendance showed that quite a number of accessions had been made to the company. The sermon at 10:30 o'clock was by Rev. Dr. J. L. Mills, of Washington, whose text was Luke XV, 8 and 9, the subject being the work of the spirit and the salvation of souls. In the afternoon the ladies’ meeting was held, and at three o'clock Rev. Mr. Elderdice preached trom. Luke V, 4th, Sth and 6th verses, the drought of Hishes, During the afternoon Rev. Mr. Ts took the asof the camp, ascertaining that there total of 500-475 males, 280 fémales and ervanis, ev. W. D. Leitzinger, of Harford, F. Edwards and son, of ‘Baltimore, the ground during the day. THE FINANCES CF THE ASSOCIATION, At 5 o'clock there was quite an interesting meeting of the stockholders held in the taber- nacle. Mr. J.D. Cathell, of West Washington, wus called to the chair, and Rev. J. D. Kinzer | acted as secretary. The committee on the k ledger made a report, showing $2,520 paid in; that the assets are $5,000, with $2,600 Habilities in ten-year bonds. The managers, in answer to questions, suid the lots were 16 by dv tet, and those owning two shares of stock were entitled te locate a site and buiid cottages if they desire. The sites on the front circle are all now taken permanently, and numbers on the avenues and sward are speaking of build- ing. Among these are Kev. Dr. Bates and Jos. Fearson, of Washington, and Capt. Pulley, of Baltimore. Rev. Dr. Drinkhouse spoke of the success of np, congratulating the stockholders that ere practically out of debt. PLAYING BALL. The suggestion was made that the manage- ment should not allow football to be played in. the cirele. Quite a number were at the time being thus engaged. Dr. Drinkbouse said the boys seemed to en- Joy it, and perhaps some are too rude, but_ they Should be allowed to enjoy themselves. It had been said in Washington that they had had professional! games ot baseball on the ground. Re Mr. Tagg remarked that such a charge may have had its origin in the fact that some of the ministers played football. A children’s party was given yesterday after- noon, and some of ihe young ones had also torch light procession in the evening. A number of the country people camped on the ground yesterday aiternoon attended the funeral of Mrs. Virginia Ray, at Severn. AG o'clock last evening Rev. CN. ‘Robin- son conducted a spirited young people’s meet- ing in a tent on Spring avenue, and the ladies in the Washington street union tent gave a concert. A “WHOLESALE” MEETING. The services at night consisted of.as one of the ministers remarked, “a wholesale prayer meeting,” intended for all on the ground. This was conducted by Rev. Mr. Gray, and after an exhortation two penitents came forward, one of whom, a young man, it was announced, was converted, Several asked the prayers of the congregation. ‘Ehis morning “ Brother” Robinson's 6 o'clock Prayer meeting opened the day, and the gen- eral family prayer meeting was conducted by Rey. Mr. Littleton. This being communion day, quite a number arrived by the morning trains irom the cities and country stations. Some of the tenters are living quite high on the grounds. They now and then take drives to Severn river for soft crabs and fish, ot which there are plenty. Affairs in West Washington.
