Fatal Affray in Goat Alley—The In- quest To-Day. A bloody and fatal affray oceurred a little betore eight o'clock last night In a little frame house in the alley known as Goat alley, which runs through the square between Land M and Gth and 7th streets. In this house lived an old ro named Thomas Carter, a man seventy years old, and who is married toa Maria Car- ter, and has several step-ehildren, Last night, while it was raining, James Holmes, a colored man, twenty-four years old, who runs a push cart, met Maria in the alley and asked her to lend him the umbrella she was carrying, but she retused, as it was not her umbrella, Holmes subsequently went to Carter's house and in- ted on borrowing the umbrella.
