THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON, D. C., TUESD. MISS FOLSOWS GOWNS. A Description ef the Dresses Which the Bride is to Wear. ‘Prom the Paris Moraing News, ‘To begin with the most important one of the cceaston. The wedding gown is a poem in its pure simplicity, ef thick ivory satin of the kind that stands aione. The round, plain jupe is draped from side to side with a very soft silk Indian muslin, attached on the left side, and nearly joining the traine de cour. The musiin is ourle, or bordered, with a very narrow band of crange flowers and leaves that outline the draping. The traine de cour 1s attached on tothe plain bodice, just below the waist behind, and measures four meters in length. It 1s siigbtly rounded and falls in full organ plaits on the ground, no trimming upon It whatever, ‘The bodice ts extremely neat. Two scarves of the soft, fimy muslin start trom the shoulder” seams, cross the bosom, and are bordered with @ narrow band of oran flower, to correspond with the skirt. The searyes at length hide away beneath ® broad ceinture, or fappet of satin that crosses. the bodice from lef to right, and fastens on th Bip. The effect is simple and exquisite. Th sleeves are made to reach just below the elbow, aud bave three crossway bands of Indian mus lin. forming a plisse. Attached at the elbow int, on the inner side of the arm, are tiny Fiomcms, buds and two or tres’ leaves of “oranges.” ‘Phe veil is of plain white silk tulle of enormous length, to be dressed high on the head witb an upstanding piquet of myrtle and orange blossom; the six meters of tulle lightly covering the entire train. ‘The traveling dress is of deep gray lainage, full ana plain, over petticoat of dark gray silk. Fifty of sixty’ narrow white stripes form a hem of halt a meter deep. Corresponding stripes, but less in number, form the trimming of the tunic. ‘These stripes, close one upon the other, orna- ment the corsage, or vest, which opens over a double-breasted waistcoat trimmed with very finely cut steel buttons. A square chest piece of velvet is inserted half way between neck and waist and forms a high collar, attached by a tiny bow of gray veivet. With this will be worn # large gray hat, lined with velvet and crowned with ostrich: feathers and a bow of picot Fipbon. Another morning dress 1s of claret and cream Striped woolen material, over silk skirt, bor- dered with a broad band of claret velvet; short tunic, draped in plaits, high on one side and leit loose on the other. The back of the Tetrousse fastens om to the long-waisted body, which, besides a claret velvet bail waistcoat, | has @ very dainty chemisette of cream etamine, Ued at the beck with a narrow velvet ribbon. A fine alpaca walking costume, with broadly plaited skirt and piain tunic simply hemmed, bas a jacket ¢ with white silk crepe flehu. The latter covers the chest, and is held in place at the waist by a narrow, pointed band of alpaca ornamented with a small steel buckle and bow; corresponding ornament at the left side of the neck. All these toilets are extremely neat and useful. Miss Folsom has not gone in for extravagance. She is a wo man of sense, and one who knows how to dress weil. An afternoon or visiting dress 1s composed of soft bronze (golden brown, not green) cashinere, over crimson Sicilienue; the petticoat, of the latter rie hue, is bordered with a thick Fuche of | bronze Sicilienne, above which the grucetul, piain tunic is draped; corsage with yoke of erimson, over which is placed @ bronze silix passementerle, terminating at the chest with @ tassel of Utile silken balls. A mantelet of cashmere, lined with crimson and bordered with @ ruche like the skirt, ornamented with @ tiny, flat hood of crimson, a-ove which Is again plactd the bronze pussementerie, completes, With a little, brown capote edged with ashbe: ries, the most fascinating Visiting costume it is | possible to see. | Another Visiting costume is entirely plain, of | myrtie green velvet, with muntelet to matel. | A dress that will cause envy to sprig up in the hearts of many isa lovely little costume of pale Leliotrope Sicilienne with black and white | stripes; skirt of plain heiiotrope faille | se, upon which are laid two slightly fulled flounees of ecru embroidered tulle, orm- ing panels on either side between the back und sront retrousse of the finely striped overskirt, which is gracefully plalted in at the waist in front beneath a corsage, with tight fitting waist- cout of embroidery matching the skirt, held by a@celnture of the same form as that described on the wedding dress. A butterfly bow of pain Sicilienne iastens on the side the high oilicer’s collar. This terminates the series of day dresses and walking costumes. The evening dresses are naturaily far more elaborate, and number two | black, one white, ove pink, One blue, and one purple velvet. The two black ones are decidedly | the bandsomest. One is of Chantilly ince, em- broidered with Jet oats that click and sparkle | At every moveinent of the wearer, over faille | Francaise. The train is entirely composed of let, lace and bows, the body of corresponding style and material.’ The seeond is also covere ith jetted tulle, with pompiiles and drops, but | having a corsage and mauteau de cour of black | ‘ons velvet. “The purple velvet is made quite B, also with a very long train, genre Louis | A dainty short evening toilet, XLV. bas the sxirt of faille in the tint Known as | Fleux rose, a faded and delicate shade of pink. ‘The front of te petticoat is trimmed with cas- eades of Malines lace and littie bows of pink ribbon; short Trianon overskirt, well bunched up, of the same material, on which abroad satin stripe is embroidered with crimson rosebuds. Pointed bodice with eibow sleeves trimmed en Sabot, and pointed walsteoat covered in Malines, attached here and there with pink bows. This bodice is cut square in front and slighty polated behind, over which falls a delicately shirred and narrow flounce of real lace. A white fallie ball dress has the underskirt completely hidden beneath w net, covered in white jets, pearls, and crystal beads. ‘The tran and corsage are Of taille, equally ornamented, or rather edged, with beads. The front of the skirt is attached here and there with white gros grain bows, apparently to keep the embroid- ered netin’ place above a thick ruche of un- Taveled silk. Round decolletage with bows on the sleeveless shoulder straps. A pertect gem of @ short dancing dress !scom- posed of pale blue tulle, embroidered with sil Ver marguerites, over petticoat of pale biue sicilieune. The tulie is full, and has the light- est and most diaphanous aspect. Short pointed euirass o: brocaded silix, also embroidered with Ailver daisies, that are to be equaily worn in the hair, mixed ‘with deeper uted corntlowers, ‘These, with a tew littie ioulard dresses of minor importance, coustitute the trousseau, which, sithough appearing maniiold, is what the Ferenc people veri le juste necessalre for a ride. —+e+—____ Child Lif xP Par. It is high time that some of the Tmembers of the medical profession, with a broad sense of honor and individuality, should throw aside their code ot ethics and renderonly what is simply due to one of the greatest dis- coveries of the nineteenth century. The Dufty Matt Whiskey Co., Baltimore, Md. Gentlemen—It is a year or so that I sent fora larger supply of your whiskey. I since pur- chased large amounts from my druggist in Chicago, I have made a most careful test of the medicinal qualities of your whiskey, which, ina word, implies sinrply 1ts purity, for in my prac tice an adulterated, spurious article would be injurious to a high degree. I had tried every brand I could purchase, and money herein was ho object to me. My patients (altogether opium eaters) who require more nerve food than any other disease demands, as the chronic poisoning with so powerfully deleterious narcotic as opium, or its alkaloids, has shattered the entire nervous system, requiring # building up de novo, on the purest and strongest nerve iood.. I had despaired of whiskey as an adjunct to my treat- ment, for iu no instance could 1 depend on the absence of fusil oil, particularly injurious to m; patients’ shattered systems, But after a year's trial I hesitate no longer, for in uil the many trials not a single test could be made to reveal that dangerous fusil ofl in it, You have my thanks tor this great and faithful assistant in my work of redeeming opium-euters, and since adding your whiskey to my treatment I find no trouble in readily caring the worst cases, I have never experienced that dreaded reaction that always followed the application of other whiskies in 12 or 24 hours, doing actual injury and interfering with the recuperation of the nerve-forces imed ut by my treatment. I have long hesitated in this statement to you of @ thousand cases of opium-addiction, or rather in its “aiter treatment,” and allowed a year’s Lime to test the permanency of its actions, and for the invariable purity of your Duff Malt Whiskey. ‘ spectiuliy yours, ete., = ide Dx.
