INTERESTING CLOSING EXERCISES AT GURLEY CHAPEL. A charity which is engaged in a work of im- portance and doing it without ostentation, is the Industrial School, which has been main- tained for some years at Gurley chapel, at the nd Boundary streets. The school devotes itself to instructing and caring for the neglected little girls of that section of the city, and every Saturday during the full and winter between two and three hundred of these are collected in the chapel, where they are taught to mak: op garments, the cloth for whi been furnished and cut out by the teachers, and are instructed in various other useful The school is conducted by between forty and fifty ladies, the most of whom belong to the New York Avenue church, the president being Mrs. Wm. Howard Mills. Not long ago a professional repairer of light- ning rods, who was at the time engaged in put- ting up additional lightning rods on the Wash- ington monument at the National Capital, told our informant that some years ago he fell irom a building on Baltimore street—the knot in his rope slipped and he fell forty feet.
