THE DANGER OF A DESTRUCTIVE FLOOD SAFELY PASSED—NAVIGATION RESUMED, ‘The condition of the river until after mid- night Saturday night was such as to continue toexcite apprehension among persons whose Property would be endangered by flood. Early Sunday morning, however, the dispatch from Harper's Ferry and intermediate points Indicated that the waters had begun to supsid The gorge at Giesboro’ was washed away y terday. ‘The river, though high yesterday, was Funniog quite freeiy and the lee was going out rapidly. ‘Thousands of people visited the Aque- duct bridge yesterday to view the splendid spectacle made by the gorged {ce above the bridge. Further up the river also some mag- nificent arctic views were improvised by the ice. Near the Seven Locks a gorge was formed and the action of the water tunneied the ice ving for a time a beautiful areh span- ning the river. The ice gorges in the Washing- ton harbor all gave way during the day.
