Captain Prince, the young lady who is in charge of Salvation army barracks, No.1, com ner of 4th and L streets, was absent from her Post last night on account of sickness, and Cadet Mary Mullen called the meeting to order at precisely 8 o'clock. The hall was comforta- bly filied at 9 o'clock with men, women and children, including about a dozen of the so- called “gang,” who sat near the stove. Special Officer Coulter and Geo. Duval, a member of the army, were stationed near the door. A large crowd of young men, who had been de- nied admittance, had congregated on the out- side, The services went along with few inter- ruptions until nearly ten o'clock. Several times the outside crowd would bang at the door or throw stones at the windows, A few minutes before ten o'clock the officer was called gatside to quell the disturbance and Duval was left in charge of thedoor. George Mace, & young man accompanied by a youn; attempted to enter the hall, but pushed him out.’ The you and Daval A FREE FIGHT then began and lasted some minutes. Blows passed between Mace and Duval, and soon the whole audience was near the door and women began taking an active part in the combat. One woman was stripped of her dress and con- Unued the battle In her white undergarments, Women and children began screaming “Mur- der” and “Police” and the patrol wagon from the seventh precinct was called out. Betore its arrival with a posse of officers the principals in the fight, or_at least a portion of them, had left the ball.” Although the fight continued several minutes no weapons were used and blood was shed by only one female. After the men had been stopped the battle raged between several Women, and the air was filled with threats of “El put Judge Snell after you,” or “I'll kill you.” While the women continued the fight the guilty ones discussed the situation and left before the police arrived. READY TO DIE AT HIS Post, Duval, who was angered and ready to con- tinue the battle if necessary, informed the remaining persons that he would die at his post rather than be whipped, and, holding fast to e door, he led the army in,'singing: “When the victory is over we shall wear the crown.” Captain Prince, who was in her room across the street, ran over when she heard the dis- turbance, ‘and threatened to have everybody arrested.’ “These here people must be crazy, shouted’ the cadet, who was standing on ihe back of one of the benches trying to restore order. The meeting was resumed and was con- tinued for a few minutes, until somebody said there was a fight on the’ outside, and then the meeting was adjourned until to-night. There ‘were no arrests made, but a number of warrants are likely to be sworn out to-day, and then the whole matter will be laid betore Judge Snell for Investigation, woman, ‘objected. man insisted on gaining admittance SS Throwing Circulars About the Streets. JUDGE SNELL CONSIDERS IT A NUISANCE AND RULES ACCORDINGLY. ‘Two boys, Charles Walter and John and Pres- ton Rollins, were arrested by Sergeant Diggings yesterday for scattering advertising circujars about the streets on Pennsylvania avenue. ‘They were charged in the Police Court this morning with violating the health ordinances ‘The prosecutions were brought under the act of the common council approved January 17, | 1856, which provides a penalty of from one to five dollars tor any person who shall place rub- bish or refuse substance of any kind on any lot reservation, open space, street or avenue ani fail to remove the same during the day on whieh it is so placed. Sergeant Diggins testified to seeing the boys throw the bilix, containing an advertisement of Herzog’s Opera house, on the pavement. Mr. Herzog’s agent siated that he sent the boys out with the bills through ignorance. The judye sald these boys have no right to do this, because it is clearly a violation of the law. Throwing these bills upon the streets some- times becomes dangerous on account of their being blown about, the strects frightening horses. It was a nuisaice and would have to be stopped. The judge said he would take the personal bonds of the boys, but If they did not Stop throwing the bills about the streets they would be brought in and made to pay a fine, Oficers Elected. ‘The Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias, of the District of Columbia, last night elected officers for the year as follows: P.
