My Cote was nine months old when we were mar- ried.” She had héard nothing of tie alleged con- piracy and was greatly shocked when told of le newspaper reports. It is sald that during he past summer the young woman went to live at the Stoekton hotel, Cape May, with the Mellen tamily, and while’there was taken sud- denly and seriously ill. This, it is alleged, was due to an attempt to poison her. ‘Mrs, Coolidge, the woman arrested in Boston for offering a’ man $1,000 to kill young Mrs. Mellen, acted as midwife at the birth of the latter's child. Mr. E. L. Mellen, the elder, was still absent from Baltimore last night, and the Boston de- tectives who are in that city believe he has been warned not to return for the present.
