This case grew out of a purchase by him of certain goods to fulfill his contract on the Pension office build- ing, and it was claimed that he was the agent of the gas company in supplying the material, but he claimed it was an ordinary sale of the goods. Funerat or E, W. Trers.—The funeral of the late E. W. Tiers took place yesterday after- noon from the Immaculate Conception church. ‘The remains were taken to Madison, N. J., tor interment, accompanied by relatives of the de- ceased trom New York city. Mr. Tiers was well kuown in Washington, having resided here lor @ number of years, during which time he was in business as a tea merchant on Ninth street, and at one time associated in business with hi: father-in-law, Mr. Best, the furniture déaler. Mr. Tiers bad been absent from the eity for sev- eral months, residing at Leonardtown, Md. He died on Saturday lust of typhoid fever. His body was brought hereon Monday.
