The salary of the collector at town is cut dowa from $1,200 to $1,080 ‘THE PEACEMAKER AMRESTED.—Last nightan altercation took place in “Tom” Bell’s house on Congress street, between David Singleton and a man named ‘Luckett, both colored, during which Singleton was struck with a pot of coffee, and afterwards received a severe cut on: his head, Bell, in whose house the fight occurred, interfered to part them. He was arrested, while Luckett escaped. Bell was charged in the Police Court to-day with assault, and the case was dismissed, ig ee Drorpep HIS PrsTor.—A fight occurred about hal-past ten o'clock last night in front of the Gallilean Fishermen's hall,on Pennsylvania avenue, between 3d and 44, streets, between a number ofcolored men. During the fight one of the men received an ugly cut across the face. While the fight was in progress, Officer Smith appeared and arrested @ colored man, named. Coleman Horner, for disorderly conduct, when Horner drew a revolver from his pocket, but threw it away during a tussle that followed. Some one in the crowd picked up the wea and made off with it, Horner was taken before Judge Snell in the Police Court this morning and fined $50 or three months on the farm. Costa RICA PREPARING FOR BARRIOS.— Advices by the steamship Alpes from Port Limon state that the president of Costa Rica has been empowered to take all necessary means to prepare for the national defense, in view of the attitude of President Barrios, of Guatemala. ‘Troops arrived at Port Limon March 10 to put that place in a state of defense, as war has been practically declared between the republies of Guatemala and Costa Rica.
