Dennis Rodgers, an eighteen-year-old colored boy, living near the Congressional cemetery, was run over by a train of cars on the B. & O. railroad, at the corner of 1st and G streets northeast, this morning, about nine o'clock, and was instantly Kilied. THE CASE OF SAREPTA STORUM, COLORED, AGAINST MH. JOHN W. CRUIT DISMISSED BY JUDGE SNELL. This morning, in the Police Court, Judge Snell gave his decision in the ease of Mr. John W. Crult, the confectloner, at 4197th street, charged with violating the civil rights act of the legislative as- sembly, in refusing to serve with coffeo and rolis one Sarepta Storum, a colored school teacher, The charge was brought under the act of 1873, which referred to licensed places. In the Poilce Court this morning two young men named John Hickey and William B. Mitchnor were puton trial, charged with highway robbery. As- sistant District Attorney Thomas appeared for the prosecution, and Campbell Carrington for the de- fendants. Henry Bell, a machinist, living in Alex: andria, Va., testifled that he came to this city on Saturday afternoon, three weeks ago, to buy an overcoat. Hemet the defendants near 11th street and Pennsylvania avenue, and he invited them to take a drink, after which they vistted the Dime Museum. Whien the show was over witness told the defendants that he was going to stay in a lodging house, as {twas a lonesome walk to the wharf. ‘They then had another drink and the de- fendants said that they would accompany hin to the wharf. Witness accepted their offer, and they started for the wharf. It was nearly eleven o'cloc When they got in the Smithsonian grounds the defendants knocked him down, and robbed him of #15. On cross-examination witness said he would hot swear positively that they were tae men, but Delteved they Were. Witness did not tell any one that he did not Know who robbed him, Defendant, Mitchnor denied the charge as stated by Mr. Bell, and said that he had been employed at the Dime Museum. He could not account for his where- abouts on the night of the robbery. Hickey was also unable to account for his whereabouts.
