Adams continued his opening remarks, He sald he had much affection for Miss Colerlage, Dut hehad no thought of marrying her. Attorney General James subaitted that the plaintiff had no case and must be non-suited. ‘The fudge ruled that Bernard's letter was a privileged communication, and that Adams, in order to maintain his case, must prove express malice of dishonesty on thé part of Bernard. He decided toleave the case to the jury, reserving to himself, however, the right to decide the action on a point of law in case verdict was not warrant! by the evidence. Mr. Adams continued hig statement, and said that he and Miss Coleridge were now resolved to get married. The case was submitted to the jury, who, after some deliberation, brought in a verdict for the plaintiff of £3,000. ‘The judge overruled dict and gave a'verdlet for Coleridge, with CHOLERA DEATHS IN PARIS. Magee, one of Cameron’s lieutenants, who arrived in this city yesterday, says that there will be no opposition to Don Cameron’s return to the Senate. All the grounds of opposition to him which existed two years ago are now dead; he can’t lose the state through his control of government patronage, for he won’t have It. He does not credit the story that Cameron has promised the office holders tn Pennsylvania that he will obstruct Cleveland’s new appointments if they send him to the Senate, This story, he thinks, started from the fact that When questioned as to patronage of, the | sta under the new administration, he said that would be all right. From this some drew the conclusion that he meant to practice obstruction in the Senate. Mr, Magee does not think Rapdall will be thrown out on the redistricting of the state. Randall, he says, has done too much for his state to be thrown over in this way. Speaking of the presidential election he says Clevo- land was in good ‘at the Chicago convention, and his affairs have Deen skillfully managed ever since, while the ment of Blaine’s campaign Was blundering throughout.
