A large number of prominent officials and leading business men Of the city went down the river yes- terday, on the steamer Arrowsmith, to visit “Colo- nial Beach,” the new summer resort. The excur- sion was given by the manageis of the Improve- ment Association, and was a thoroughly pleasant and enjovable affair th 4s about 66 miles from W: being entirely sutrounded by water. The lands well situated for improvements of every kind, and already great has been made in this direc- tion. Some fifteen cottages are constructed, or nearly finished, and others probably be built during the season. Work is being pushed rapidly on tue large new hotel, and the expectation ig that ft will be ready for occupancy by the 15th of June. A number of rooms in it have already been engaged, and most of the cottagers will be in their quarters by that time, so that when the sea- son opens it will do so with a large attendance from the start. It may be added, too, that the {rope now at the arsenal here will go {nto camp at that point for the summer. It will be seen, therefore, that the Beach will not lack pleasant permanent society, and this attraction, in addition Vo the natural advantages of the place, can hardly. fail to make it popt with Washingtonians, to ‘whom it 1s so easily accessible, and also with people from other cities, who desire a pleasant summer!
