BROKERS WHO LAUGH. ‘The brokers tn the up-town offices discussed this morning the affairs of Mr. Levis with a great deal of interest, and a8 they had not been affected Dy tt they could afford to laugh over the operations of the broker and the panic of the operators. “His customers,” remarked one of the brokers, «seemed to be located in the Immediate nelghbor- hood of his office. One of the operators in this venture related toa Stam reporter his experience. “My attention was firet called to the business carried on by Levis by a friend, who said that he was doing well, and wanted me to avail myself of the chance. He showed me his bank book, and T'saw that he had Deen getting checks for large amounts each month, 80 on the 17th of February I put in $1,000, halt of which was mine and haif belonged to a friend whom I had asked togoin with me. BURNSIDE Atnumber of the depositors with Levis refer to Col Burnside, the disbursing clerk of the Post Mice department, as the one who advised them of this opportunity of making money. They believe that he acted from a friendly motive towards them, and that he was making a good deal of money himself.
