DENHAM WAIVES EXAMINATION AND GIVES BAIL IN $1,000 TO APPEAR BEFORE THE GRAND JURY, ‘To-day the case of Lemuel J. Denham, on the charge of devising a scheme to defraud an appli- cant for a pension (James Hand, of Brooklyn, N. ¥.) by using the mails, was set for a hearing before U.S. Commissioner Bundy, Mr. Denham appeared with his counsel, Mr. B.F Hanley... ‘The commis: sioner stated that he had recelved a letter from the ension office suggesting a postponement, owing the death of the father of a witness in the case, Mr. Jacobs, special examiner in the penston office. Mr. Hanley said that, in view of the decision in the case of Bonnell (reported in Saturday's Sran), they had come to the conclusion to waive exam ination and give bail for the action of the grand jury.
