H., February 11th, 1820, From May, 1849, to May, 1853, he was postmaster at Ports mouth, and was warmly commended for his intelligent and efficient discharge of ey duties ot the office. From 1861, August, 1865, Mr. Tullock was navy agent at Portameaty, where many vessels of war were built, repaired, and equipped carne his term of office. Mr. Tull was Rcted secretary of the Union: Republican Congreasional committee in Unis city, and was also secretary of the executive committee. He continued in charge until March, 1869, giving great satisfaction to political as- gociates. He was subsequently elected secretary of the republican congressional committee in 1870 and 1872, and also treasurer in 1880, but was 80 mucl ‘upied with other duties as to cause him to deciine the appotutments. In March, 1869, ho was appointed chief of the ap- polnitment division of the United States Treasury Under Sccretary Houtwell, and in the. following August Was appofated collector of internal rev- enue for the District of Columbia. He held this office until the District was consolidated with the third revenue district of Maryland, 1876. On the 8th of October, 1877, he Was appotnted assistant postmaster by: Postmaster Edmunds of this city, and remained 1n that post until he took charge of the financial de- parcuient, of the office in August, 1880. In Novem- er last, when Mr. Ainger was removed, he was appointed postmaster of Washington. Since Mr. Tullock has made his home in Washington, In 1865, he has been engaged 19 many public enterprises, and bis name figures in the directory of some of the most important business concerns of thi Mr. ‘ullock became a member of Methodist Eplscopal church in 1841, and since his residence here was an active member of ee M.
