Mason, who,when a soldier of the 2d U.S. artillery, ‘was convicted by court martial of shooting at Gul- teau, the assassin of President Garfield, to-day filed a Dill In his own behalf against John A. Mason, Bettie E. Mason and Riggs & Co. asking a Judgment against the sum deposited with Riggs & Co. for $3,500, or such sum as may be decreed as just and reasonable for his services. He sets out that the legal residence of the Masons 1s Oranze county, Va.; that on Septemb r 11th, 1891 Mason being a sergeant of battery B, 2d U.S. art lery was ordered from the Washington arsenal to the U. S Jail for guard quty, the occasion for such ‘duty being the confinement of Chas. J. Davis poe ot ‘THREATENED WITH INDICTMENT BY TRE VIRGINIA AUTHOUITIES —The Alexandria Gazetle siys that the grand jury of that county will w-day indict Edward Payne and John Powers, of this city, for isting an Officer in the discharge of his duty. Constable Lomax undertook last week to arrest Payne and Powers for alleged violation of the Tishery laws, in that they were setting trap-nets, obstructing the fishery near the Long bridge, within precincts belonging to the Messrs. Dodge. The constable’s story 1s that Payne and Powers isted arrest, and drew a pistol on him, de- clring at the same time that they defled the lessees of the fishery and the laws of Vircinta. After the coroner had given a certificate of death by drowning, they were prepared for burial and taken to the resi- dence of the parents on O street.
