During the past week trade has been fairly ac- tive In our markets, with no special feature to mention, with the exception of an advance of about ten cents on a bushel on potatoes, and the appearance of some green stuff from Florida. The flour market remains quiet as usual, and prices steady; the same may be said of wheat. Corn and oats are active and higher. The hay market is well Supplied and trade is quite active, with steady Prices. The receipts of fresh New York butter are increasing, and prices on that class of goods are a shade lower than last week. The receipts of near- by productions amount to very little, and there !s very little call for tr, the demand being more for the fine Rrades and the fresh New York. There isa considerable quantity of last season’s make of butter in market yet and considerable anxiety is felt in its disposition before the new makes become plentiful. This ts also true of markets in other cities. Some lots of near-by productions have been returned by our dealers to the country_trom Whence they were consigned. A firm on Louis- tana avenue a few days azo shipped two entire dairies of “Glades” butter back to the consignor, there being no sale for it ‘Trade 1s acti in new choice lots, but there 1s no dispo- sition on the part’ of buyers to purchase old stocks. Luxssune, Va., March 234. Next Friday morning, if the executive of Virginia Goes not Interfere, Charles William Beaner will be hanged at Leesburg, Loudoun county, Va, for the crime of rape. The condemned criminal is a colored boy, between 16 and 17 years of age, born and reared in the upper part of thecounty. He was convicted on the 16th of January of having on the 5th of September last committed AN ATROCIOUS OUTRAGE upon the person of a white girl—the daughter of Mr. G. A. Hunt. The little child was so late in re- turning from school that the mother and father felt alarmed, and started out to meether. They had not proceeded far when they espied Beaner, Who was only partially clothed, rise from a fence cornerandrun. Mr. Hunt at once gave chase to him and followed him toa barn, where he found him secreted in the hay. The little girlin the meantime had been found and carried home. Mr. Hunt took the prisoner to his house, where he was identified by the little girl, and the’ particulars of his crime were revealed. ‘Mr. Hunt concluded to let the law take its course, and the prisoner was committed to jail. AN ATTEMPT TO LYNCH FRUSTRATED. Some of Mr. Hunt’s nelghbors organized with the intention of saving further expense to the county, It became known in town that the at- tempt was to be made to lynch the prisoner, and a8 soon as the party—about forty horsemen—ap- Peared the town bell was rung and the people turned out, and the avengers did not make any at- tack on the gail. ‘The case was continued from the fall term of the court through the efforts of the counsel of the boy, Mr. Pollock, but was called in January, and, as stated above, he was convicted on the 16th and sentenced to be hanged on Friday, Mareh 30th. .
