E CHURCH. At yesterday’s session of the Washington confer- ence of the colored M. E. church, at Roberts chapel, Alexandria, Dr. Harizett delivered an ad- Gress in the interest of the Freedmans’ Aid So- clety and $2,757.50 was subscribed to the fund. The evening session was devoted to. the celebration of the annivirsary of the Freedmans’ Ald Soctety. Dr. Blyden, Rey. R.H. Robinson, Dr. Frysinger and Rev. A. B. Wilson delivered appropriate ad- resses. The conference opened its second day’s session this morning at 9 o'clock. Several ministers have arrived since the opening of conference, and, reckoning visitors and members, there are now over 140 ministers In town. Bishop Warren pre- sided at the conference, and Revs. C. @. Keys, M. Carroll and John A. Holmes were the secréta- ries. ‘The representatives from the District of Co- lumbta in the conference to-lay were Revs. N. M. Curroll, H. R. Elbent and R. Steele, of Washing- ton, and Rey. J. W. Boothe, of Georgetown. The exercises Were opened with prayer, hymns and ripture reading, and the body then proceeded to take up the Giselpiinary questions ‘The 20th disciplinary question was answered in Telation to Presiding Elder Peck, and all the mem- bers of the Baltimore district. The daughters of the conference made their of- ferings for conference work amounting to over $800, of which $50 was contributed from Washing- ton. Revs. Dr. Reed, of New York, and Davis, of Washington, addressed the conference, and then Toutine business occupled the time until adjourn- ment. —_.+—__ A Svrr For Divonce.—Yesterday Mr. H. B. Moulton fled a divorce bill for Ella P. Richardson against James ¥. Richardson. The parties were married in Philadeiphin January 5, 1373, by the Rev. George W. McIntyre, her malden name being Cameron, and two children were the Issue of the marriage. They moved to Lake City, Col., where, she charges, that the defendant began drinking to excess. He obtained $4,000 from her, which he Spent fn ritous living, and in September, 1880, he deserted her. She supported herselt by’ sewing Unt she secured a position in the Government Printing Office, where she 1s now employed. ———aae : Tue Dyep Horses.—The charge against Hugh Gallagher, the horse-trader, Who was before the Police Court yesterday, charged with false pre- tenses, in sctling a pair of horses to Colonel B. F. Rittenhouse, of the Soldiers’ Home, which horses he (Gallagher) represented to be b but which had white spots dyed, was dismissed by Judge Shell to-day. After making a personal examuna- Uon of the horses this morning Judge Snell sald that if a person sold a palr of horses that were pricuically white and represented them to be black the case Would be different. But in this case there were half a dozen small spots which were dyed. The court sald that the defendant had a civil remedy, which was the proper way to proceed in this case. Mr. Moore stated that when the case was first presented to him he had serious doubts as to witether the charge of false pretenses could be sustained. He also said that he thought that no jury would convict on this state of facts. ‘The defendant was then discharged. SS SES A JEALovs WIFE AssAULTs aA Yous@ Girr.— This afternoon, in the Police Court, a married woman named Marta Byrnes, of 20th street north- West, Was put on trial for assaulting a young girl named Nellie Maloney, of the same neighborhood, Who stated that while walking along Market Space yesterdiy afternoon she was attacked by Mrs. Byrnes, Who beat her on the head and face unmerciiuily. Mrs, Byrnes stated that she boarded with her husband in the family of Miss Maloney some time ago, and since that time her husband has treated her (witness) badly, on account of his re- lations with Miss Maloney. Miss Maloney took the stand again and denied that she had any improper relations with Mr. Byrnes. “These eruptions will occur some times,” sald Judge Snell, “but I think the real party who ought to be cowhided 1s the man in the case.
