The damage to the stock is estimated to be about $80,000, and !3 covered by insurance to the amount of $85,000. Pennsylvania was the only strong stock on the market. Irish will take place to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the New York Avenue Presbyterian church. A meeting of the heads of bureaus and chiefs of the Secretary’s office of the Treasury departinent was held in the room of Assistant Secretary French at noon to- day, to take action regarding the death of Col Irish. Appropriate remarks were made by Judge French and eee 4 committee to draft resait- tions was appointed, composed of Asststant Secre- taries French and New, Controllers Knox and Lawrence and Commissioner of Customs Johnson. Supreme Court toeday affirmed the decision of the lower court in the double pension case of General Ward B. Burnett against the Secretary of the Interior. General Burnett was in receipt’ of a pension of $50 per month, authorized by a spectal act of Con- gress, Under the general pension laws of 1872-74 and 1680 he became entitled to increased rates of pension, and on July 17, 1882, a new pension cer- ifleate for $72 per month was tssued to bim under the general law. On the 2ist of July, 1882, he re- turned to Secretary Teller the certificate for a Pension of $50 per month, under the special act, and onerea Sate ee In ee he now asserts that he acted un: visedly, and he prays for a writ of mandamus to compel Secretary ‘Teller to return to him the certificate.
