See advertisement. ————— StaTe REPUBLICAN ASSOCIATIONS. —At a meeting of the West Virginia R-pubilean Association Saturday evening, a committee was appointed, of Which E. W. 8. Moore 1s chairman, to perfect ‘the necessary arrangements for transportation. A committee, composed of James M. Ewing, Jolin A. Hervey, K. H. Silvey and Edson C. Brace, was appointed to canvass the departments and ascer- tain the names of every voter of West Virginia. ‘The Tennessee Republican Association Sutur- day evening appointed a committee consisting of Méssrs. C.“C. Collins, J. N. Sparks, J. W. Brown, J. P. Hammer and F. D. McFarland to interview Mr. W. P. Brownlow and ascertain in which hitherto democratic districts that the most good could be accomplished by the dissemination of re- publican literature. ———— ‘Tue RECOxSTRUCTED JEFFERSON BUILDING.—The work of reconstructing the Jefferson school butld- Ing has'so far been completed that sixteen of the schools which were removed from it after the fire returned to their old quarters this morning. The full compl-ment—twenty-four—will be in there In less than a week. This bullding 1s now considered one of the best’ school buildings in the District, and many contend that it is the best, all accom: modations considered. It 1s now three stories high with a basement, in place of four stories, as for- merly, and as ‘early fire-proof as any of the School buildings. In the third story of the main Dullding 1s located the large hall for exhibitions, which formerly occupied a fourth-story mansard tinder box, and the two wings at each end run- ning into ‘the play grounds, form an annex, adding rooms to make the original number con plete. In making these alterations the architect, Mr. J. B. Brady, has added many improvements: thick fire-walls have been constructed trom the basement to the top; fire-proof stairways with steps of alternate blue and Diack slate, and ven- tlating stacks and flues have been made. heating apparatus 1s made as safe as it is possible to make them, with furnaces and engines in the same building.
