The Attorney General hag received a letter from Mr. Merrick, the attorney for the claimants of the Kidwell meadows, tothe effect that in the matter of the proposed Improvement of the Potomac flats the claim of his clients need not delay the Work one moment, whether thelr grant good , Vall or invalid They are willing and destrous that the government Should at once take possession of all property clatined by them and_use it as may be necessary or proper for the purposes of reclamation. ‘They tender themselves ready to execute any tnstru- ment in writing that may be required to enable the officers of the — gov- emment to carry the work into immediate execution, without any risk of interference with them. Alderman Smoot said that the proposed receipts and expenditures had been balanced at the opening of the year, but as this expense was not large it might be carried: Alderman Rischelll said that the lawyers had told him that if the council failed to make the change Judge Meade would make an order for that pur, pose.
