A. Doublesheet To-morrow. The demand upon the advertising space of Tux Sran has not abated. It printed in Apriland May 5,190 new adverttsements, and June prom- tses to quite equal May. Another double-sheet will be issued to-morrow. Advertisers will confer @ favor by sending In thelr orders early. Taste ES ‘The independent or ant!-machine wing of the re- publican party in Pennsylvania ts dally making converts, unless its organs are very much de- ceived. It 1s estimated that not less than one hun red thousand republican voters are now dpenly committed to the support of the independent Ucket, and those identified with the movement ¢laim that this number will increase rather than diminish. Last year Mr. Wolfe, for state treasurer, though scli-nominated, polled fitty thousand votes. This year many republicans, some of them men of prominence and acknowledged influence, ‘who last year opposed Wolfe, are actively sup- Porting the Independent ticket. The breach In the party has widened, visibly, since the nomination ‘of an independent ticket, and it ts now predicted that the two factions will antazoniz2 each other even in the election of county officers; that the in- dependents will weaken the machine whenever the nomination of an opposing republican ticket can effect that, Meantime the democrats are Dusily engaged in trying to harmonize the hitherto ‘unruly elements of their own party. It seems to be recognized as a fact that ex-Senator Wallace Is already a candidate for Mr. Don Cameron's seat 1% the Senate. One-half of the state senate to be elected next fall will hold over until 1884 and will, consequently, participate in the election of Mr. Cameron's successor. Mr. Randall, the ex-speaker, 4s the recognized leader of one wing of the democ Tacy and Mr. Wallace of the other. If they agree upon matters of party interest in the pending eampaign they will probably be able to muster their party in pretty solid column. ———_<e2—__—_ Senator Gorman was yesterday succeeded as president of the Chesapeake and Ohio canal by Mr. Henry D. Farnandis, of Harford county, Md. Governor Hamilton proposed Mr. Robert Bridges, of Washington county, for president, but he was outvoted by tne Gorman men and his ticket defeated. Mr. Farnandis is spoken of in high terms by the Baltimore papers asa gentleman of ability and Integrity, and one of them thinks his @lection will prove “beneficial to the democratic party.” This would hardly seem to be the mission ofa canal president, but the Chesapeake and Ohio anal has been so long run as a party machine that the people of Maryland seem. to look upon this use Of it as a matter of course. ~~» —___—_ ‘The Washington correspondent of the New York Herald says there ts a rumor afloat here tha “Secretary Folger will soon resign and that he is to be succeeded by Senator Don Cameron, who in his turn ts to have for his successor in the Senate his father, ex-Senator Cameron.” There has been talk for some time that the old man was inclined w take the reins into his own experienced hands, now that the Pennsylvania machine fs traveling ‘over sorouzh a road. Don is a dashing driver, but hardly a safe one, especially when he has a ju:np- ing toothache. +e» ——_ Now that the House has agreed to give the sec- ond and fourth Mondays of each month during the session for the consideration of District business, there 1s ground for hope that action can be had upon the water bill, flats bill and other matters of prime importance. ~~» —___ Senator Plumb will have a lively fight if he locks horns with the Typographical Union. A® HONORED MANUFACTURER, Ten years ago, and from thst time back to the year of eighteen hundred and fifty-two, there was no foreign mater of gonds who was known better than IVAN SIM- MONI. His name on a piece of goods was all that was necessary to guarantee it as an HONEST, reliable fab- ric. When the great demand for cheap goods raged in this country Simmoni’s goods were rarely seen. When the people found ont that five-dollar PANTS TO ORDER were no better than THREE-FIFTY ready-made ones— often not as good—and when the dark days that followed the downfall of our leading bankers were over, when the country had passed through this crisis and entered again on an era of prosperity, the demand came for good goods. Hence it is that to-day Ivan Simmoni, the French manufacturer who refused to lower his standard of quality in order to mest # priea, finds his products in greater demand than ever. This season we imported six styles of these goods—three light and three dark colors. The light colors we have made into STYLISH SACK SUITS. The goods are whatis known as a Pin Check pattern—one of the neatest and most difficult styles for a manufacturer to make perfect. These we have are absolutely perfect. We made them in two ways. With a fine serge lining they cost $22 per suit: silk lined throughout, they cost $25 per suit. The dis- tinction is entirely in the lining of the coat. One of the styles is the Blue Pin Check; another of the styles is a Gray Pin Check; the other is a quiet Brown Pin Check. ‘The darkest of the light shades we cut into large sizes, 4s a very large man does not look well in light colors. We study all these things carefully, and are just a anxious to dress you PROPERLY as woe are to sell you your clothes, A.
