THe Pusiic Scuoon EstimaTe.—The city finance committee invited the school board to the auditor's oMice last night for conference upon the pro] increase ot $3,200 for the public Schools. Messrs Smoot, Eichberg and Strauss, of the committee, Were present, and School Trustees Snowden, Mar- bury. Vincent, Leadbeater, Beach and Carne, with the superintendent of schools. Chairman Smoot Tepresented tothe trustees that It was doubtful whether if over 200 cents on the huncred dollars was im) It could be collected; that there were unusual calls on the city this year; but that if the school board would agree to reduce the estimate for running the schools to $7,200, the same as last Year, the committee could put the city taxes at $2 on the hundred.
