Murtagh has sent a note to the Com- missioners relative to their communication to the House District committe, and states that it 1s not the desire of the Sixth Street and Bladensburg Railroad Company to interfere with the regular travel upon said road, and that they are willing to amend the bill so that the track may be laid at ‘such distance from the pike that no injury. oye done to the regular travel upon the road. ‘The Commissioners, in reply, State that when the Dill is so amended as to remove the road from the public highway the objection based upon such occupation will be withdrawn. THE BOUNDARY STREET SEWER. ‘The new and last section of the Boundary street intercepting sewer, for which proposals have been advertised by the District engineer department, comprises all the work necessary for the construc- tion of about 950 linear feet of sewer, 20 feet inter- nal diameter, extending from about ‘the center of 7th street n. é. to the east Ine of 5th street n. e. ‘The quantities of the several kinds of work are approximately estimated at 67,200 cubic yards of earth excavation, 15,200 cuble yards surplus earth to be hauled away, 2,350 cuble_yards concrete ma- sonry, and 1,730 square yards of trap rock masonry. ‘se quantities are approximate, and may be fi creased or diminished, the intention being to co tract for 80 much of the sewer as will amount to a total cost of the amount now available. For the completion of this section there remains about 1,600 linear feet of sewer, 20 feet internal diameter, the construction of which 1s contingent upon obtaining the necessary appropriation. ‘The Commissioners have presented to Congress an es- timate of $85,000 to be expended on the sewer dur- ing the fiscal year ending June 30, 1883, and what- ever amount may be appropriated for this purpose will be expended mder the contract now about to be made, The quantities of work required for the completion of the 20 feet section, in addition to those above given, are estimated to be 90.700 cubic yards earth excavation, 25,600 cubic yards surplus earth to be hauled away, 3,950 cubic yards concrete masonry, 5,£03 cubic yards brick masonry, and 2,912 square yards trap rock masonry. OPPOSED TO TELEGRAPH POLES. Lieut. Greene has submitted the application of Warren Choate and others for permission to erect, iron poles for carrying electric light wires through varlous streets, to Major Twining, recommending that the required permission be refused, favoring the underground system and suggesting’ that Con- gress be asked to pass a law compell! ng the re- moval of all telegraph poles within the city limits, Major Twining has submitted the report to the board of Commissioners, with the recommenda- on that the question be submitted to Congress.
