The war sho no signs of abating as yet, anda bitter feeling | — between the seaipers and railroad com- A "talegram from Boston, July 26th, say There is no change to-day in the situation of the warfare in passenger ratés to Chicago from this city. The Grand Trunk and_Vermont Cen- tral lines are selling a rebate on Chicago tickets | of $5, and the Boston and Albany and Hoosac iS |Tunnel lines are doing likewise, and in addi- tion séiling tickets at the same rate to Toronto —not Ottawa, as was stated yesterday—and | Detroit. Inquiry made at the offices of the | several lines this morning developed the fact that the increase in travel has not, as yet, been marked. There have been many | inguiries, but the actual sales have not | been noticably augmented. The Grand Trank | and Vermont Central lines are so confident that the end of the war is near that they have not reduced the rate to-day to $3, as it was declared they would do yesterday. If, however, there is | not a speedy termination to the warfare the re- duction will be made. At last accounts no ticket had been sold in New York at less than Should the rate there drop to $5 to-day a conference of railroad magnates will probably | put a speedy termination to the troubles. It is universally conceded that the ticket scaipers are at the bottom of all this warfare. | The indications are that the management of the Boston and Albany and Fitchburg roads, in connection with the New York Cen- tral, have come to the conclusion that they were furnishing those other patrons who were desirous of going west with too much for their money in | the line of cheap transportation, since they have, commencing this afternoon, raised their rates to Chicago to 29.50 from the $5 rate in force this forenoon and yesterday. This rate is $1 higher than the rate ‘trom New York to Chicago. The | Toads mentioned express a detenmination to keep the Boston rate within #1 of the York | rate. The Grand Trunk and Central Vermont | lines'are still charging $5 and are confident of maintaining this rate for some time yet. <9. The Dynamite Infernal } Machines, A DENIAL FROM O'DONOVAN ROSSA. It is believed in London that the dynamite machines sent from America to Liverpool were intended to explode inthe steamers, as they were packed so as to resist concussion. O'Don ovan Rossa, who is charged with being lica- ted in the shipping of barrels of dynamite to English ports by steamers sailing from New | York, last night furnished the following letter of | denial for publication: “My name has been used in connection with the slipment of infernal ma- | chines on some of the steamers leaving this port. | 2nglish papers call on the American government | to suppress such actions on the part of the Fe- | jnians in New York. They purport to have seized barrels of cement containing machines | charged with dynamite, and that my name was | | found on papers therein. How absurd! If we | sent such more caution would have been used. My printed circulars would not be enclosed as an advertisement: and moreover, if such were sent | by the skirmishing fund, they would not be sent | | to blow up steamers leaving our port and carry- | ing some of our dearest friends. = she. Mayor Grace, of New York, had a conference yesterday with the city laborers, who have peti- tioned him to use his efforts with the head#of departments and have their wages increased, Re said that he was satisfied of the justness of their claim, and would recommend the heads of the several departments of the city government that they advance the wages of their emp 10 per cent in all cases where such advance would not be precluded by express provisions of law. He warned them, however, that such an increase would decrease the number of persons: employed. There were with me some of the party who had found ithe young man’s body, and they took me over the trail that led to the spot where the murder was committed. This was two miles from the scene of capture. Every five hundred yards or 80 there were imprints in the ground of a man's knees, and the guides explained that at these intervals the prisoner had sunk down from ex- haustion, and to implore his savage captors to spare his life, or to put him out of misery by Killing him. if he pleaded for life at first, he pleaded as hard for death at last, for over the last mile of the trail was sprinkled a copious | stream of blood, and the sequel showed that the Indians had committed such an atrocious | outrage upon their prisoner that no man thus mutilated could hope or wish to live a minute thereafter.” The body, after being once buried, was unearthed by the cayotes, and the remnants interred and a cross planted to mark the site. sen Taree Cauores Brrvep ro Deata.—At Muir, Mich., Monday morning, a small house, occupied by Alon: rrick, his wife and six | children, accidentally took fire, and was burned | to the ground. | enamber whe The fire originated in an upper re three of the children*-one @ deaf mute, aged 11 years, and two other boya, aged respect Sand 5 years—were and it was impossible to rescue them, were burned to an undistinguishable mass.
