Mahone s “listake. ‘The Richmond W?.i, Senator Mahone’s organ, In Its iseue of Tuesday, savs edivorially: “Tt seems that it 1s not only Mr. Mahone who cannot have everything his own way in the Senate. Mr. Garfield does not sting that body by the tatl; nor does Mr. Conkling. If Gen. Mahone caunot get Riddleber pores in, 80 neither can rome Garfield and Conkling get in their nomin This sone is somewhat ambiguous. In the first place it frapites that there is something wrong because Mr. Mahone “cannot jast sentence contains a threat that if Gen. The Princess Dolgorouki, wife of the late Czar of Russia, is investing a very large pro- portion of the milWons left her by provident care of her late husband, in United States secur- ities. Under the new regime the princess’ life in Russia 1s not a happy one by any means. ‘The present Czar never admired her a3 a step- mother, and he does not make any secret of his desire to rid Russia of her and her children. Perhaps she contemplates estabilshing herself im this free country, where she could enjoy peace, security and qulet, and expend her Wealth just as she should see fit.
