Greene has submitted to the District Commissioners a schedule of pavements to be laid during the present season, and I infer that the list embraces all that probabiy will be laid. If this inference is correct, gross injus- lice will be done to the section of our city known as Capitol Hill, as while but 12 600 yards of asphalt pavement are allotted to that sec- on, to take the place of rotten pavements laid at ruinous cost to real estate owners, and this, too, only on streets near the Capitol building, 400 yards are designed to beautify suca tS as Scott Square, Vermont avenue, Con- necticut avenue, Rhode Island avenue, ‘Iowa P street circle, &., &¢. It 1s about time the Commissioners gave @ little attention to the rotten pavements of Capito) Hill, at least, to the full extent of the appropria- tions made for them lately by Col ‘They should remember there are other perts of the town that pay taxes, require at- tention, andare entitied to the benefit ote well- jaid, smooth, pavements beside the squares, circles and avenues above-mentioned; and if a Uttie of the haste to lay smooth pavements in the northwestern part was dispiayed in the eastern part of town, the Commissioners might - — from the suspicion that they know Dut locality. It may be well to add that Capi- toll at is destiiute of concrete pavements (ex- cepupg on Pennsylvania avenue andon East = itol street, which isin an incomplete con- lon,) unless on a few streets bordering on the Capitol grounds, and then only in the Meee of property — by es <P pd compensate for past neglect, substan' - crete 7 pavements, similar to those laid in the northwestern part of town, should at once be put down on every street within the limits of ist and 10th streets east, and D street north and D street south. Let the Commissioners turn their attention eastward. A SUBSCRIBER, April 20, The Courts. CouRT IN — TERM. Yesterday, Bevans che pe telow Heed, peal dismissed for non- ——— with rule 29. Rich agt.
