Jorgensen’s Relation to the Vir- gimia Republican Delegation. WASHINGTON, April 16, 1a. Editor Star: Permit me to correct the report in THE SraR of yesterday of the interview ac- corded by the President to certain republicans from Virginia, so far as it relates to the Hon. dosepa Jorgensen. At the request of the mem- bers of the delegation referred to, Mr. Jorge! sen, as their representative in Congress, con- sented merely to introduce them to the Prest- dent, after having been assured that the object of their visit was to interchange views with the Freeident ag to the political situation in Vir- oa far @s your report by implication repre- sents Mr. Jorgensen as being committed to or in accord with the opinions expressed by the delegation, either as to the political situation or to the removals from office asked for, 1t docs him upintentional injustice, inasmuch as he promptly stated to the President that he was taken by surprise at the delegation going be- yond the Brevonnly, expressed objec o Tuetr visit, ery respectful Hovenr BOLLING. WHAT MR. JORGENSEN SAYS AROUT THE MATTER. A Srar reporter called upon Mr. Jorgensen this morning to get at the true tnwardness ot this matter. That good-looking and eloquent young Congressman stated the case about as fol- lows: A delegation of straight out republicans from Petersburg, Va., called on Mr, Jorgense! present them to the President, , Teppresensing their desire to learn his views on the political situation in Virginia. After their mtroduction to the President, much tothe surprise of Mr. Jorgensen, one of their number (Mr. -McCaleb) stated that the postmaster at Petersburg, and Col. Jas. D. nd the collector of internal revenue, had voted for Hancock and English a mine late _ presidential election, on which grounds their removal from office ‘was demanded. Mr. Jorgenson here in- terruped, stating that be was misinformed as to their errand; that he was not here at this time to request the removal of ee enyenes and If there was to be a change made in the post officein Petersburg, at the proper time he would vee the name of a gentlemen who was indorsed by nearly all the local republican organizations of that city. The President treated the delegation kindly and cordially, and said that whatever charges were made against the above named officers should be in writing, and he would give them due consider- Gene After some further conversation they eft him. ‘Two ‘Orifice’? Seckers. THEIR UNIQUE APPEALS TO THE PRESIDENT. The President has recetved an urgent appeai from a postmaster in Kentucky, who writes that he has been informed of an effort to secure bis removal. “I want you to stand up by me, Mr. President,” he says, “because during the campaign I stood by you. I subscribed $35 to- ward defraying the expenses of your election, the receipt for $25 of which I enciose. I lost thé receipt for the other $10. Please return these receipts when you answer this letter.” A letter addressed to the President has also been received from Newark, New Jersey. The writer says: “J very muck desire the position ot male carrier as I will make myselve loyal Christian temperance men in regard of repre- sentation as the shoemaking trade do not agree with me and desiring with troueness being free from bissness for the reason I cannot make know money tolive on. HE DOES NOT PROPOSE TO ABDICATS. A prominent republican journalist of New Jersey, editor of one of the most intluential party organs in that state, had a long talk with the President yesterday on the sut- ject of the nomination of Judge Robert son, This editor inforned a SraRr re- porter that the ‘President’s backbone was as Stiff as a bar of tron;” that he is determined not to yield an inch in the Robertson case; that the President said he had not sought any contest, witb bis party iéade:§, bur at !t phad been forced Upon bim he thought it the bes! policy to have the question as to whether the executive or the legisinuive department 1s to control nomtna- udns settled at the beginning of his adminis— tration; that the President was determined to recognize all the elements of his party, and that he had recognized the factions tu New York with the view of restoring harmony; that he would not withdraw Robertson nor would he accept compromise in any shape or form.
