Though the debt-paying element tn politics triumphed at the election tn Arkansas last year, {t appears that repudiation was only scotched, hot killed. The contest was over certain bonds which were Issued to encourage and assist in the construction of raflroads and levees. A portion of the demoeratte party in the state In- sisted that these bonds onght not to be re- deemed, or, mor properly, that they ought to be repudiated, on the ground that the state did not derive veneilt from them commensurate With the amount of money the bonds repre. sent.
