RECEPTION OF VETRRANS. ‘The Veteran reception committee appointed to receive the organizations of veteran soldiers and sailors met at the rooms over the National Metropolitan Bank last evening, and was or- ganized by electing Generali W. H. Browne Shairman and W. Warren White secretary. Col. D. B. Aipger addressed the committee, stating that at tue meeting of the executive com nit- tee It was decided that this committee should have charge of ail organizations of ex-soldlers and sailors coming as veteran organizations The military committee would have charge of the arms-bearing organtzations and the civic reception committee of the political organizt- tions, leaving those who come as veterans— whose name appiles that they are ex-soidlers— to this committee. Parsons, pastor of the Church of the Reformation, writes to the District Com- missioners as follows: “As one of the pastors of one of the Protestant churches of this city, I take the opportunity to say that the so-called Pastors’s Union is a figment, and that 1a your endeavor to justly sdmiaister the license law you have the sympathy of many temperance ee who are able to discriminate between ‘fapaticism and reason. Cornwell, corner of loth street and Maryland avenue south west, who testified that hia store was broken into about five o'clock yesterday morning and Tobbed Of several boxes of cigars and tobacco. On making an examination of bis premises witness discovered that his store had been en- tered by breaking a large pane of glass, and that one of the parties had left a shoe behind. The Speaker laid before the House to-day the statement of the Citizens’ Gas-Light Co., of Washington, in support of a bill to authorize it tolay down gas mains and pipes. The state- Ment sets forth that the Citizens’ Gas-Light Company was incorporated on the 7th of De- cember, 1890, under the general incorporation act of Congress for the Distriet of Columbia. ‘Their purpose is to manufacturé ana furnish to the community a gas of high illuminating wer, Vastly superior to that furnished by the ashington Gas-Light Company, and of not less than 24 candle power. They’ say that the gas which they propose to furnish 1s a water gas, such as has been successfully introduced and used in New York, Brooklyn, Yonkers, Poughkeepste, Troy and other cities; that there 4s room for two gas companies In Washington 1s clear from the simple fact thatthe mai value of the stock of the Washington company fs not less than $46 per share, while the noml- nal par value 13 only $25; or, in other words, itis at a premilum of 84 percent.
