HE EVENING STAR DOUBLE SHEET. WASHINGTON. jATURDAY ---October 2, 1890. __CROSBY S. NOYES...E -Editor, than double that of any other daily vaver published in Washington, and equal totha of all the other daily papers here added te- orther. ———SS————— ‘THe Brak office is connected with the Telephone Exchange. Advertisements, orders for the paper by mail and otherwise, news, or sny information Or business can be sent day or night, free of charge. As the day of election draws near the issues of the canvass appear to become less sectional. ‘The organs and speakers of both parties are devoting considerable attention at present to-s discussion of the business Interests of the coun- try and the effect a change in the political con trol of affairs would have. The attempt of wild Politicians to make it appear that this great Tepubllc depends upon any political organiza- on for continued life and prosperity is too absurd to have any weight even ia an exciting campaign. Business is above politica, and ought to be kept above it, but some citizens of Ken- tueky who feel aggrieved at the manner in which Cinetanat! papers have discussed their State and section, now seriously propose to make polltics govern business, to a cerialn ex- tent. These Kentucklans have cailed upon other business men of the south to join with them Mm agreeing that they will not purchase from Cineinnati merchants !f, at the coming election, that ety votes to sustain the repubil- can partr. The plea for this course Is that the Tepublican papers of Cincipnati have “abused, villitied and denounced” the people of the south, Without distinction or exception: that these papers have held up the southern peoole as “brutal, igaorant and dishonest,” and that the Merchants of the abused section ought not, in Self=respect, to spend thelr money among a People who thus hold them fn contem)t. Louis. ville ts a rival of Cincinnati ta competing for southern trade, and this fact may account for the propesa! that southern merchants shall avoid the latter city. At any rate, it isto be hoped that business will not, in any of its branches or interests, become invoived ia poll- ties. Thercis no sentiment about buslozss. It is based upon seif-luterest, and evenin a heated political contest southern mereuants will gen- erally buy where they can get the best terms and goods, regardless of the creed, politica, or even color, of the sellers. Ee eee The European powers were very willing to accede to {ke request of the Porte to delay any further action until Sunday (to-morrow,) but What basis they have to expect that the decl- sion Turkey may reach will be one of conces. sion, does not appear from the situation; yet this expectation ts indulged in and encouraged. ‘The European journals are talking of the pro able “pactile execution of the Beriin treaty, but this talk fs like the boy’s whistling to keep is courage up. In the same connection it is admitted that there is very strong reactionary feeling in Austria against the action of the pow- ers im the east, and in opgosition to Austrian participation in further coercive meas- ures. There ts grave doubt, too, as to whether G rmany will agree to take part in tuese coer- ceive measures, and France {s plainly holding back. With all these facts fully In view It does not look reasonable to suppose that the Porte will decide to yield, after having main- tained its resistance even tn the face of a threat- ened use of force by the powers. Meantime the Albanians continue their preparations for resis- tance, The inhabitants of Duleigno have re- fused to remove thelr families out of danger in case of a bombardment, saying they would rather die than submit to the Montenegrins, This does not indicate that Turkey entertains any idea of submission. After the vacillating course pursued by the powers, and with the ap- Parent differences of optnion that exist as to _ advisability of resorting to coercive meas- * the Porte, perhaps, does not much fear a fonh ardment of Duleiyno. ————--—___ Among the articles of export to Europe which help to keep the balance of trade fa favor of the United States the ttem of appie3 holds a more conspicuous place than most persoas sup- Pose. Particularly ts this true of the present Season, wien the crop 13 at once so large and 80 excellent. One dig steamer salilag trom ‘New York this week took out 6,700 barrels, and Others are carrytag as large cargoes in propor- ton to tonnage. From Boston the shipments are even greater in bulk, if not so large in Single instances, The various lines of freight Steamers safling from that port are néarly all engaged for apple cargoes up to the middle ot November, and some of them two or three Weeks later, while salling vessels have alzo been chartered for Same purpose. So lively is the demand for this transportation that freights have advanced fuliy thirty-three Der cent dur. ing the last ten days, and the prospect Is that they will go still higher. Most of the snip- ments are to English ports, put not a few have been made to the continent direct, ana tt is be- Meved that the trade will assume mm greater Proportions in future should this season’s ven . Cure turn out successfully. As couducielon tts Present scale the business 13 largely in the nature of an experiment, but tt Is not doubtet now that it will prove to be satisfactory tn all Tespects. Such a result would be a good thing all around. It would ensure a market for our Surplus stock in years of plentiful crops, when there would otherwise be little or no demand 4or It. And at the same time it would supply to the people on the otuer side of the Atlantic better frult than they have ever had before. On Sick Headache, Nervous Headache, Reuralgia, Nervousness and Sleeplessness, Their Cause and Cure. BY C. W. BENSON, M.D. Headachesof all kinds are nervous, whether called sick, Rervous or constitutional headache, and do- Pend upon one cause—nervous depravity or pover- $y. When the patient is very nervous it is calied Nervous Headache; when dyspeptic it is termed Sick Headache; when bilious it is termed Bilious Headache, and soon. Excitement, over- ‘exertion, ‘hot sun or bright light are all exciting causes of headache; but the real cause is the nervous system itself. Only those whose neryous system is in a depraved condition suffer, while all others whose nervous system isin a normal state, although ex- Posed to the Fame exciting causes, escape. Now, why do my pills cure these diseases? Simply be- cause they act directly upon the digestive organs and the nervous system ; they sre nerve food, and ‘soon put the nervous system into a normal state, and thereby remove the cause of these and all other acrvous diseases. Their effect is upen the fountain head, and thelr cure is permanent. They can no more fail to nourish the nervous system than bread and meat can the general system. Therofore a cure {s certatn when they are properly used. They are not purgative, bnt relieve constipation by curing indigestion, the caure of it. Celery has only come into public notice within the last few yesrsas a nervine, but scientific ox- periments and experience have proved beyond a Goubt that it controls nervous irritation and peri- Odic nervous and sick headache to a marked de- gree. Buta combination of the Exrract or CELERY asp CamMoMILE, which has been but recently in- troduced to the profession and the Public by my- self, has produced such marvellous results in cur- ing nervousness and headaches, and especially nervous and sick headaches, neuralgia, and sleep- leseness, that it has excited public attention and newspaper comments, and therefore I give the fol- lowing information to the public to avoid answer- ing hundreds of letters of inquiry about them: ‘My pills for the cure of headaches and mervous- nesg are prepared under my eupervision and are intended expressly to cure headaches, neuralgia, sleeplessness and nervousness, and will cure any case where no organic disease of the brain or ‘Spical cord exists. Hundreds of cases of many years’ standing have been cured. No matter how chronic or obetinate the care may be, a permanent cure is morally certain. This statement is made aftor years of experience in their use in the ceneral practice of medicine. ‘Theee pills are algo valuable for school children who suffer frem nervous headaches caused by an overworked brain in their studies, and for all classes of hard brainworkers, whose overtaxed nervous centers need repair and sedation. Nervous tremor, weakness and paralysis are being daily cured by these pills. They ¢orrect costiveness, but are not purgative. Directions on each box.
