Among the latest contributions to the literature of the sup- ject is a letter from Commander Cheyne, in Teply fo an article in the Standard a few days ago, in which that journal questioned the taste cf bringing home the remains of Lieut. Irving, of the Franklin expedition. He (Cheyne) ex- presses his satisfaction that the bones of that ciicer have been brought back by Lieut. Schwatka, ¢nd thinks that when they arrive in England it will be necessary to inquest in order to ascertain the cause of his death. In the event of such an inquiry being held he declares that he will re- iterate the charges against the contractor who Turbished the supplies, and whom he accisi:s of the murder or the Franklin party. Mr. Cheyne has been making these charges in lec: tures and addresses since the return of the Nares expedition, but papers here have usually left cut the name of the contractor, fearing an action forlibel. His charges against the con- tractor are of the most starting char- acter, It was not the Arctic regions that sent Franklin's men to the nex: world, says Cheyne.
