N. C. Draper € Co.. at the cor- ner of C and 13th streets northwest. The fire originated {In the engine-room, from the {gni- Uon of some combustibie matter, which com- municated at once with the shavings-room and | soon to the roof. The workmen discovered It almost immediately and gave the alarm, which brought No. 2 engine company, followed soon afterwards by all the other engines and the two truck companies, and in a few mtnutes large Yolumes of water were played directly into the flames, checking the spread. It was not long before the firemen had subdued the tlames; not, however, until it had burned a hole through the roof. and caused a loss of about $300 to the Duilding and the material stored in the mould- ing room on the second story. The police were quickly on the spot, and kept back the crowd. They were followed to the grave by the grandchildren of the deceased, oid soldiers, by the pioneers, among whomi were some of his assoctates in California in 1546, and by nearly 300 of his zen. Gibson deitvered a brief Dut impressive eulogy over the deceased, and was followed by Gen. Fremont, who referred to bis friendship for Gen. Sut’ commencing 36 years ago. when he first arrived in California. As the cofin was lowered into the grave a large and beautiful floral pillow, brought by his veteran friends and associates, was placed over the remains.
