SUICIDE OF A GOVERNMENT OPFICER.—. At De- troit, Mich., Monday morning, Charles Schwei- kart, committed suicide by shooting himself tnrough the head. The bail entered the right temple and passed out of the left, cal death instantly. Schwelkart had been first officer of the U. S. light-house supply boat Warrington for the past eleven years. During the boat’s return to Detroit, April 23, from a trip to Mil- waukee, it appears that he and some of the oMi- cers had a dispute, which so enraged him that he concluded never to go aboard the W: a again, and ever since his arrival had been drink- ing heavily. The liquor usually made him cross, ugly and despondent. While his wife was pre- paring breakfast Monday morning, he told her that he was going to a saloon to get a drink of whisky, and would return ina short time. He got his drink, and then went into the woodshed in the rear of his house and fired the fatal shot.
