DEDICATION OF THE NEW HALL—THE BANQUET’ EIC.—SPEECHES BY GEN. SHERMAN, SECKETA RIES SCHURZ AND RAMSEY, AND OTHERS. Yesterday afternoon on the arrival of the Washington Schuetzen Verein and their guests at the Peet Mr. Geo. I. Seufferle, chairman ef the buiiding committee, addressed the compaay, and delivered the keys of the new hall to Mr. Wolf, the president, and in afew remarks he sald that ouilder, Mr. H. Conradis, and the architects, Messrs. Cluss an@ Schultze, had given them 2 building of wkich they were proud. The Marine band, sta- toned in the bigenios end of the hall, furnished musie during tl rat en proceedings, which were as follows: Mr. Wolf, in a fev remarks, called the assemblage to order, and introduced Mr. Kurd Yon Schlosser, the German Minister, who made a short address, in which he referred to the love the Germans had for their father land. Secretary Schurz, referring to the fine building they were to dedicate, congratulated the Verein that the old house had beer burned. He also congratulated them on the evidence furnished by the great number of ekildren prlacion Was increasing. Secretary of War Ramsey re- marked that haif of his blood was German, and thus he could not te otherwise than a fried to the German race, and he warmly congratulzted them on the success of the association. Gen. Sherman and Representative Page made ap- propriate remarks. Mr. Wolf said that with them it was unnecessary to have any formal ceremonial in opening their new building. He hoped that all would enjoy themselves. He claimed that it was rational temperance to mneet as they did with their home folks about them, and engage in {Innocent amusements. CHARGE OF IxDECENT AssavLT.—A court of enquiry has been engaged for some days past, atthe Virginia Midiand railroad depot, in in- vestigating a charge of indecent assault’ made against a gage Inaster of that road, by a col- ored woman, a chambermald on the same train With him. The woman states the assault was ; nade upon her by the baggage master on Satur- day night a week ago, about 10 o'clock, while she was asleep in a chair car of the ‘south- bound train, which was then lying at Danville, The accused, who has heretofore been consid- ered an industrious, upright young man, says there is no truth in the charge, as he has wit- nesses to prove that he was not in the car at the time the woman claims the assault was made. He also states that ihe woman made no charge to the conductor of his train against him, nor said anything about the matter to any Cne, but waited until the train was trans- ferred to another conductor, to whom she made the complaint, between this city and Washing- ton, The baggage-master has been suspended from the road pending the investigation, which has not yet been concluded. EW SSEaAMER.—Superiptendent Phillips, of the Potomac Ferry Company, says he has com- pleted the arrangements for the purchase of Steamer Arrow Smith, a Baltimore steamer, about the size of the steamer John W. Thomp- Son. It is understood that the steamer Mattano will be withdrawn from the Lower Potomac route, and her place will be saponin by the Arrow Smith, which 13 said to bea fast and commodious boat.
